ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The trio Lux Bridge crosses borders, playing Irish, Scottish, English, French, Welsh, New England, and Appalachian traditional tunes, plus some bluegrass tunes with our own stylistic stamp - some swing rhythm, a pinch of Appalachian oldtime feel, a dash of Cajun flavor, some bluegrass inspired tunes, and a touch of classical.
Miss Kate (as she’s known to her violin and fiddle students) is the lyrical, shuffling, rocking core of the band. Carl provides a rhythmic and chordal foundation on guitar, as well as some melodic accompaniment. Jake doesn’t just hold down the fort - he lifts the band to a new level with inspired percussion. The parts are good, but, ahh - the sum! Kate, Carl, and Jake listen intently to each other, doing many arrangments on the fly during live performance. Each gig is a new musical adventure.

Celtic with a twist
Yes, there are some familiar tunes, as well as some surprises--swing rhythms, a little old-time, a dash of Bach. If you're looking for strictly "trad," this is not it. But if you like fiddling that's lyrically masterful with just enough edge; driving, tasty guitar accompaniment; and drums that add an element of surprise, all complementing each other, then give a listen to this. I saved this album for the last hour of a ten-hour car trip and it did not disappoint; even the tunes I'd heard hundreds of times before lifted and carried me with new energy. Favorite moments: the flirty, sultry call-and-response between fiddle and guitar in the opening A part of "Over the Waterfall" and the Cajun treatment of "The Merry Blacksmith" (appearing here as "The Blackened Smith). Highly recommended "driving music"!

Breaking Traditions? Oh Yeah!
Lux Bridge enjoys breaking traditions! But, more importantly they do it well, taking care to produce a sound that both they and the listener will enjoy. In this album Lux Bridge has effectively produced a blend of musical traditions, and yes, its definitely makes good driving music!
