ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
When I first visited a Medicine Wheel circle, I felt I had found my home, my family ... I began to recover parts of myself that had been long lost. The music of ceremonial circles resounds powerfully in my psyche, bringing me healing and return to my center. When I meet a new song that touches me, I live with it, sing it through the day, record it, and sing choruses and harmonies until it nests in my heart. Sometimes, new songs find their way into this world through me. I feel nourished by contemporary chants, Native American and traditional chants of many cultures.

I recorded these songs with my drum, my rattle, and my voice. In some traditions, a chant is repeated four times, to honor the four cardinal directions. These songs are a way of focusing energy: for release, affirmation, or to send blessings and healing. Sing with intention, sing with your heart wide open. This collection of chants and songs was created to spread and expand the breath and the rhythms that connect us all.

It has been so lovely to hear from so many over the years who have been touched by this CD. Stories of families whose children asked to hear it every day while they played, and who asked to hear it while going to sleep. Stories of how this music helped connect people at circles, rituals, sacred gatherings. People who practiced drumming with my CD, people who played it on the way to work to feel cocooned in grace through the traffic, people who felt they could connect with like-minded and like-hearted others through the songs, people who were transported by the sound. Thank you for sharing my passion and telling me how you were embraced by this music.

Originally, I recorded this on cassette in 1988. Each side was created to flow from the opening of a ceremony to its closing. Tracks 1 - 14 can be considered one ceremony, and 15 - 29 another. This is an idea of only one way these songs may be arranged, and I invite you to feel into the songs yourself and sing them according to your inner wisdom. My feeling about the ritual of sacred space is to open with centering, ask and receive the blessings of the directions, chant to bring forth our innate qualities of spirit, and close with gratitude to the spirit keepers and the Sacred Oneness. At the end of ceremony, we expand outward with the sense that our gathering radiates nourishing energies to feed the evolution of consciousness in all its forms.

I invite you to feel into the spirit of the songs and touch into the rhythms of your spirit, and the soul of the world. Sing echoes, sing rounds, sing harmonies with me. I teach these songs with joy, and with gratitude to their sources.

With loving heart, for All My Relations.
Warmly, Lyn
