Maggie Moor is a singer / songwriter from New York City. Maggie Moor has also appeared as an actress in film, stage, and TV; including the fun role of the matronly housewife turned wild vixen in Twisted Sister’s Christmas Rock Video Oh, Come All Ye Faithful. Ms. Moor's all-Star band called Blue Lights in the Basement, gigging at various venues like The Stone Pony and Knitting Factory.
Red Devil Trickery is Maggie Moor's debut record. It is a sultry noir collection of original tunes you might expect to hear drifting from a back-alley speak easy in a David Lynch film. Ms. Moor wrote most of these tunes alone in her bedroom on her guitar and has been thrilled to have been joined by such a fantastic line-up of musicians backing her vocals on this album.
Ms. Moor's all-star band line-up comprised of: Buddy Williams (Roberta Flack, David Sanborn) on drums, Jeff Ganz (Johnny Winter, Roy Buchanan) on bass, George Naha (Darlene Love) on guitar, Marty Dunayer on keys, Kenny Rampton (Wynton Marsalis Orchestra) solos on “Girl”, “Sunday Afternoon,” and the title tune “Red Devil Trickery.” Rob Paparozzi (Blood, Sweat, and Tears) features harmonica on “Gun Metal Blue. ”Mark White (Spin Doctors) takes the bass parts on the tune “Strangled” along with Eddie "fingers" Ojeda (Twisted Sister) on lead guitars on “Strangled.”
The album Red Devil Trickery was engineered and produced at Marty Dunayer at Musecat Studios and Avatar Studios, NYC. All songs were Mixed and Mastered by Steve Boyer (Grammy winner for Eric Clapton's Unplugged) at Avatar Studios, NY.
Maggie Moor is currently in pre-production on a new album of original songs, titled Gently. It will feature all the same artists as Red Devil plus will be joined by legendary musicianship of David Sanborn, playing saxophone and the wonderful duo The Mason Brothers (Wynton Marsalis Orchestra and Jessica Simpson) playing trombone and trumpet!
Maggie Moor is also a writer. She has recently finished a first draft of her first manuscript, temporarily titled Skinless: Memoir of a Girl Who Wishes She Was Water, for which she is currently seeking a literary agent who appreciates memoirs that take readers into an edgier side of life and have happy-enough endings. It is a coming of age story from Maggie Moor's double-wonder teenage years of seeking to fulfill her dreams, hitchhiking around solo, sleeping on North Cali beaches, then moving to New York City - all the while battling conflicting human questions and dilemmas most teenage girls only read about.
A review from a live reading at the Cornelia Street Café:
"Maggie Moor blows our minds with jazzy prose reminiscent of Tom Robbins (but non fiction and female!)”
