Mama Digdown’s Brass Band has been hard at work for over a decade making great big music in little ol’ Madison, Wisconsin. Their vibrant mix of authentic New Orleans style brass band bravado and street-born bump and grit has earned them the respect of fellow musicians and fans alike across the country.
The album works its way between classic New Orleans style street parade music, complete with shout choruses and serious jazz influences, to more laid back, hip hop inspired riffs. On the funky, fun opening track “High Heel Sneakers (Red Dress)," for instance, the group starts the shindig right with uptempo grooves and huge presence, while later on they kick back with a good drink with the slick "Mojito." The title track is definitely a stand-out as well, composed by Walter Ramsey and The Stooges Brass Band, and featuring that infectiously joyous style of group-shout-singing present throughout the album.
What's really fantastic about "We Make 'Em Say Ooh" is that it showcases the band member's impressive musicianship while still allowing for those small but essential rough edges that exemplify great street music.
The CD contains a bonus music video for the song "Mojito." Video created by Tommy Sweeney.
