ABOUT THIS ALBUM


Album Notes
Mamdoh El Gibaley was born in Port Said, Egypt in 1967. He obtained a Bachelor's degree from the Higher Institute of Arabic Music in Cairo, and in 1992 he began to teach oud at the Institute. He obtained his Graduate Diploma three years later, and subsequently went on to recieve a Master's degree in 2003 relating to the taqasim of Riyad Al Sunbati and Mohamed El Qasabgi followed by a PhD in 2007 on the complexities of Sunbati's music. El Gibaley has contributed to numerous recordings and has performed with most of the leading Arab singers; he is also a prolific composer of songs and film music. He has participated in a number of festivals worldwide, including an oud festival in Muscat, Oman in 2005 - this performance was recorded as part of the 4CD "Al Tarab - Muscat 'Ûd Festival" box set.
