Album Notes
From Maqlu's bio and promotional materials for this release:

Just in time for the nastier long winter nights, Vancouver’s industrial synth rock sorceress Maqlu is
releasing her new EP, Black.

Black is the second in a three EP song cycle to be called Tales From the Black Heart, picking up where the debut release, Blood, left off. Blood was unleashed on Walpurgisnacht 2010, receiving airplay from as far away as Australia [4ZzZ in Brisbane] and charting in several markets across Canada, most notably hitting the #1 spot on the Electronic Top Ten at CJAM FM in Windsor.

As with Blood, Black was mixed by Maqlu at Garth Richardson’s Nimbus School of Recording Arts in
Vancouver and mastered by Scott Fox of iVardensphere at Noise Haus in Edmonton. Black also continues in the same sonic and thematic veins as Blood with grinding synthetic tones, messed-up and distorted or destroyed samples, glitched-out loops and a complicated emotional landscape. Black starts off with Maqlu’s venomous meditations on conflict and revenge hissing and growling against varying time signatures, from the bonded nightmare of “Siamese Twins” followed by the sarcastic cheer chants of “Whore” and the bombastic indictments of the hypocritical “Martyr.” A slight detour comes with the relentless yet pensive “March On” before the seething “Paws Off.” Black then hangs itself, stepping back on the final track “Home.”

Aside from her debut EP Blood, Maqlu has previously remixed for cyberpunkers Left Spine Down, tribal EBM outfit iVardensphere, experimental industrialists Virtual Terrorist as well as for upcoming releases by Jakalope and Raggedy Angry.

Play these songs in the pit of the darkest nights. Even if the sun appears to be shining.
