Cleveland native Marcus Studmire is an international award-winning singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. His extraordinary range of instrumental talent can be classified into all five musical categories including voice, strings, winds, percussion, and keyboards. In addition to his smooth tenor voice, Marcus plays electric, acoustic and bass guitar, piano, drums, and saxophone. Marcus Studmire is honored to be a top prizewinner in the renowned international “Song of the Year” Contest for his song “Outpour.” Song of the Year is a global competition with a primary focus of discovering great songwriters; the contest hosts a prestigious panel of judges from major record labels.
Like many musicians, Marcus comes from a musical family. His father, who played bass and lead guitar, gave Marcus his very first instrument which was a saxophone as well as many other instruments to enrich Marcus’ musical education. It was his Uncle Oliver Studmire, a professional musician, who gave Marcus his first formal guitar lesson commencing in standard Blues. As a creative and charismatic teenager, Marcus formed a street-percussion group using ordinary household items like buckets, pails and garbage lids. As a young adult, Marcus joined the Navy. When he return to civilian live, he founded the group “GI3” along with Stanley Morgan on guitar and Reggie Brown on vocals. Marcus contributed keyboards, vocals, and writing.
Through Marcus’s sheer determination and ingenuity, the group GI3 caught the attention of distinguished producer Maurice “The General” Starr. Maurice Starr is well known for his role in the careers of New Edition and New Kids on the Block. Maurice heard GI3’s demo and invited GI3 to open for his act Perfect Gentleman. Later, Marcus was introduced to Travis Gresham of Gresh Groove Music. This introduction led to Marcus to his first publishing deal. After GI3, Marcus entered a journey into Contemporary Christian music.
Today, Marcus Studmire has transitioned into the Christian arena. His transformation began when the Lord saved him. Over time, Marcus witnessed God’s hand in molding his musical gifts. Marcus re-acclimated by playing bass in Church. Then, he underwent a process by which he surrendered: he emptied himself to God and was reborn, both spiritually and musically. He emerged with a new style and a new purpose. The conversion took his old roots of R & B and grew those roots into a new branch - Contemporary Christian music. Marcus picked up his guitar again and answered his purpose to spread God’s love to others.
In May of 2009, “Seasons”, a five-song Contemporary Christian EP, was released. Nashville’s Sandy Tipping of Advantage Music Productions produced “Seasons”. The title “Seasons” refers to the seasons of our lives, the journey of beginnings and endings and everything in between with a focus on God through worship and praise. Each song in this debut evokes a message, a gift that Marcus has received and is sharing with the world. The song “Outpour” was inspired by a period in his life when Marcus faced a spiritual and artistic drought. The song speaks to the imagery of letting God’s love and wisdom pour onto you; shower you, with what you need. “All Because of You” came about when Marcus took an inventory of his personal history in thanksgiving for all the blessings he had received. The song “I'm here” is a song of offering of himself to the Lord “I'm Here” expresses to the Lord that Marcus is at the altar rendering himself as a humble sacrifice. The song "My God Shall Supply" is about declaration of God's provision during a time of famine and leanness. This song was released out of Marcus' spirit during such a time. It is designed to take a person's focus off of the famine and focus on the one that has the provision, God. Finally, the song “Nothing but Love” is a summary of Marcus’s new path. “Nothing but Love” is Marcus’s way of saying to The Lord, “This is what I give to you, nothing but my love, all of my love.” The EP “Seasons” is more than Marcus’s personal story; it is a universal story with a universal message of salvation and thanksgiving.
Marcus has been deeply inspired by his faith that has led to a renewal of his marriage; it has helped him earn a college education to support his family; and, his faith has lifted his musical gifts up to a new purpose. Marcus is a graduate of Cleveland State University, Tiffin University and is an Artist in Residency, part of the faculty staff and an alumnus of Cuyahoga Community College. While under the leadership of Bishop Luther Blackwell of Mega Church, Marcus was the lead guitar player for the music ministry (Rhythmic Sounds of Mega), and an active participant of the prison outreach ministry, preaching and teaching the word of God in prisons across north east Ohio. Currently, Marcus praises God through music regularly at the Covenant Community Church of Cleveland, under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence W. Boone, in Cleveland, Ohio. With the release of “Seasons” and a renewed spirit, Marcus hopes to elevate people, through music, into the presence of The Lord.
