ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Once upon a time, not so long ago, Margaret had a daughter. She called her Adri-Mari or Ami for short. Fast forward a couple of years and Ami has established herself as one of South Africa's top singer-songwriters. Along with indie producer/multi-instrumentalist Etienne Ghyoot, the duo recorded this CD in drips and drabs over a period of 2 years in Etienne's "home studio" (read: spare bedroom connected to his PC). Between the two of them, they wrote and produced all the songs and even played all the instruments.

These "professional demo recordings" became the basis of the Margaret's Daughter sound and some songs were later re-recorded in a "proper studio" with additional session musicians and a co-producer. These new versions can be found on Black Hole Express.

Fans are still very fond of these early recordings, and some songs have even been play-listed on South African national radio stations. Therefore, the band decided to keep this CD available for download, so new fans can discover where the band's journey started.

What a great cd.
I brought this CD because of the reference to Heather Nova and was not disappointed. It is extremely well recorded and has many different influences running through it, which makes the music a very interesting listen.
I am now eagerly awaiting the next CD due out next year.

Quality of the US band HEART, but with much more soul and better writing!
I had to write again, I am reviewing tunes for our site, I just kept playing yours over and over and over...

WOW, really GREAT!

These are the BEST home recordings I have ever heard.

You've got the quality of the US band HEART, but with much more soul and better writing!

This cd hasn't left my cd player for months!
I purchased this cd a few months ago, and it seriously hasn’t left my player! Well apart from to lend it to friends, in which they have all enjoyed it too.

Each track is very well done, and for a 1st attempt at an album, I’m very impressed! I am a huge fan of the likes of sarah mclachlan, heather nova, lisa loeb, etc and this duo is certainly in the same league!

Every track is well written and put together, amazing use of instruments and Margaret’s voice is amazing! The main two tracks that stand out for me is, Right beside me and Prayer. In fact Right beside me was on repeat in my car yesterday!

I very much look forward to the next album. These guys are very talented and someone to look out for in the future!

A brilliant, great, superb, enjoyable, fab, CD! It's Good as well!
I have now been listening to this cd for around 2 weeks solid! I have to say it did not disappoint when it arrived. I first heard their music on myspace, and after a few exchanged messages decided to buy! It is an extremely well recorded cd, and has a feel of quality about it, which for a small independently run outfit, without the money of the big labels is amazing. My favourite 2 tracks are "Backbeat" because it has a real deep bass that just annoys my neighbors so much and makes me smile! My other fave is because it just sticks in my head, and I walk around singing or humming it for hours after, and that is "Daydream", however picking a fave is so hard as they are all so good. I think this would now be a cd I would take to a desert island with me (of course this island has electricity), well that is until they do another cd! It gets 5 stars from me, I would have given more but it only went to 5! Buy it from the nice people at cd baby and enjoy it as much as I do!

we had a hard time choosing which songs to put into rotation (we like them all!)
We’re excited about our latest artist in our playlist: Margaret’s Daughter. Their music is absolutely wonderful to listen to, and they show off many styles throughout this album; each tune has its own feel and flavor and discovering each one is a joy. The songwriting is very well done on this album, and we have to warn you that you will find yourself singing along in no time. We definitely recommend Margaret’s Daughter for your personal collection.

Hard working, innovative South African duo
Margaret's Daughter is a hard working, innovative rock band from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although they often perform live as a quartet, the entire album was completely written, arranged, produced, recorded and mixed by it's two principle members Ami and Etienne.

Their music is contemporary rock. They list many influences including Cranberries, Alanis Morissette and Natalie Merchant but the music I would most be likely to compare it to is the latest work of KT Tunstall. Evidence of the bands African heritage is present throughout their music but don't be thinking Paul Simon. The African rhythms and textures are subtle and pleasing, not over powering. The African influences are most prominent in the tracks, "Charmless Young Man" and "Lay Your Weapons Down", two of the best written and unique tracks on the CD. Ami does an impressive job acheiving some pretty good
harmonies on these tracks while performing both background and lead vocals.

Overall, a very good debut from a very talented duo.

Margaret's Daughter is here, fluent and a breath of fresh air
This duo from across the world has come in beautiful flowing form with this new c.d. bringing back the simplest
of forms, with vibrant guitar riffs and romantic lyrics.
crazy flows, the gritty vibe of lay your weapons down...
listen for your self....influenced by the best ..standing on their own. Margaret's Daughter has it.
