Album Notes
After spending the better part of the last year in clubs, vans, and nights on the couches of willing concert goers, Martin Devaney took a break this summer to concentrate on recording. Recently released on Eclectone Records, the label he founded in 2002,“Letters Never Sent” is the fourth release from the twenty-six year old and marks a dramatic departure from his critically acclaimed 2004 release “La Mancha”. While “La Mancha” highlighted an infectious release of high energy pop and rock, “Letters Never Sent” draws the listener back into the strong singer-songwriter roots that have sustained the prolific Devaney through four releases in as many years.

Returning to Underwood Studios to work with producer Mark Stockert (Big Ditch Road, Robert McCreedy), Devaney effortlessly melds his deep song-smithing sensibilities with the energy and vitality of one of the Twin Cities top rhythm sections comprised of Peter Leggett (drums) and Sean McPherson (bass) from hip-hop collective Heiruspecs. Additionally, “Letters Never Sent” features guest appearances from Mick Wirtz (Bellwether) and bassist Steve Murray (Molly Maher, Friends Like These, Ben Weaver). Long-time guitarist Josh Peterson anchors many of the tracks while several are highlighted by fiddle and vocal cameos by songwriter JoAnna James and the Get Up Johns’ Jake Hyer. While the title suggests hints of emotional remorse or romantic regret, no such musical restraint can be found as Martin Devaney puts forth the strongest effort of his young career.
