Renzo Arbore

“We need more talented singer like Matteo!”
Riz Ortolani (2 Oscar Nominations, Grammy Award, composer of “MORE - from Mondo Cane”)

“JUST SMILE” is the debut album of the 25 year old singer Matteo Brancaleoni, acclaimed by the critic as the real Sinatra’s Italian heir. Here's a new young singer with a fresh take. Although he was born and bred in Italy, Brancaleoni brings a distinctly American jazz flavour. Brancaleoni is accompanied by the 80 year poet of piano Renato Sellani, who has played among the others with Billie Holliday, Chet Baker, Sarah Vaughan, Charles Trenet, Tony Scott and many others.
A charming and beautiful album featuring an All - Star Band composed by first rate musician, Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet), drummer Stefano Bagnoli, Massimo Moriconi (bass), and some of them truly italian jazz legends as sax player Gianni Basso and guitarist Franco Cerri. The heartbreaking voice of Matteo Brancaleoni breathes new life into classic American standards. 15 romantic jazz-pop songs performed with distinctive vocal beauty and elegance. A perfect, new introducing for a crooner that's bound to leave his mark...

"Just Smile is a unique album of pure and exceptional beauty"
Jazz Magazine

“A wonderful, expressive voice and an impressive range.
Brancaleoni touched my tough old heart”
Thomas Conrad (JazzTimes, Stereophile)

“Just Smile: an acoustic delight”
Valerio Venturi, Secolo XIX

“With this record, Brancaleoni proves that he is not just a great crooner, an heir to Sinatra for our time, but a jazz singer of the first rank. If ever there was an artist to include in your repertoire of recordings to experience Just Smile is one of them.”
John Boardman, on All About Jazz

"The debut album from Matteo Brancaleoni is truly a class act that blends well with the traditions of the great American singers.
Matteo has a charm reminiscent of the days of Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin."

Keith Pawlak, Nelson Riddle Memorial Library, University of Arizona School of Music

“Brancaleoni is the Italian heir of Sinatra”
La Stampa

“ Matteo Brancaleoni is an authentic crooner,
He proves here, in his debut album, to be totally part of the history of our music, to love it and respect it with poetic humbleness. His vocal abilities appear in all their shear and majestic beauty, while his legendary partners support him the best way they ever could. A perfect, new introducing for a crooner that's bound to leave his mark...”

Paolo Piangiarelli

“The best italian crooner ever!”
Guido Michelone, (Musica Jazz, World Music)

“One of the most talented young jazz singer of our country”
JazzItalia.net

"An amazing young talent"
Corriere della Sera

"I'm sure. Matteo will become one of the greatest of our time"
Franco Cerri

A wonderful album. It touched my old heart!!!
This is a sensational debut album of pure and exceptional beauty. Brancaleoni brings a distinctly American jazz flavour. When listening to him you'll find within his singing a treasure trove of honesty. Here he is able to muster an interpretation that is far beyond his age, filled with tinges of insight, regret, heartache, and love.
The All - Star Band is composed by first rate musicians,Renato Sellani is a true poet (believe me) Fabrizio Bosso - he really rocks on trumpet! - drummer Stefano Bagnoli, Massimo Moriconi (bass), Franco Cerri (guitar) and Gianni Basso (tenor Sax). Cerri’s arrangement of “My Funny Valentine” is breathtaking.
The selection of material is immaculate. An extraordinary balance between jazz standards, and classic songs.
The beauty of Brancaleoni’s voice is perfectly captured on this recording. The rhythm section is perfectly balanced and the focus is primarily on the singer. The results sound simpler to achieve than they must have been in reality, and have a very natural feel.
With this record, Brancaleoni proves that he is not just a great crooner, an heir to Sinatra for our time, but a jazz singer of the first rank. An acoustic delight.
