Album Notes

For over 12 years, Matthew Raetzel has written original music in various mediums. Hailing from the outskirts of the greater Detroit area, he began his life in music at age 13 when he purchased a drum set. For the next 9 years, he performed in various rock and heavy metal groups, eventually taking prominent interest in performing guitar and piano.

In 2008, Matthew took interest in using his passion in a new medium--film. He began studying classical composition, orchestration, and recording production, and their relationship within the art of film. Since then, he has written original scores for 2 full length features, 7 short films, 2 television pilots, and various Internet shorts and trailers. His work has appeared in numerous film festivals and TV shows, including the Hollywood Black Film Festival, the Detroit 48-Hour Film Festival, Festival De Cannes, and Syfy's original show Viral Video Showdown.

More recently, Matthew has focused on writing and publishing various original compositions for film, TV, advertising, movie trailers, and video games. He is also writing a series of short concert works for local Michigan orchestras.

Cinematic Indeed!
Simply put, the work is amazing. It has a certain weight to it that affords it the right to call itself, "The Cinematic Collection". The compositions are rich, textured and tell a story all their own. Up-n-coming composer? No way. This guy has arrived. The work speaks for itself. My personal favorites are "Chinese Fairytale", "Miracle of Life" and "The Time Has Come". But truly - all are evocative and just a pleasure to listen to. A killer debut album!

Amazing! What a Journey!
The first commercial work by an up and coming composer Matthew Raetzel. There are plenty of quality pieces here. Starting with the short and sweet 'Logo Theme', I can imagine any studio using that snippet. The longest track 'A Chinese Fairytale' is a soft and engrossing piece. If you close your eyes you can picture so many different images with the music. Simply beautiful. The level of detail in each song is astounding. Each songs evokes emotions, which is such a strong indicator of achievement, when not paired with any image. Bravo Mr. Raetzel. I know we will be hearing more from you in the future.
