If you like variety in your jazz, you've come to right to right album! Each track will take you on a unique musical journey. My taste in jazz, and music in general, is very eclectic, and is reflected in my compositions. This CD features 10 of my own pieces, and two standards. I'm very proud to have such world-renowned musicians as Chris Potter and Rufus Reid onboard here, and equally proud to feature some of my lesser-known, but incredibly gifted colleagues herein as well. This set ranges from the New Orleans-ish groove of the opening track, to the lush lyricism of Bill Evans (Bells For Bill), to the ECM-influenced title track, to world music (The Silk Road), to free jazz (Gremlins), and to straight-ahead swingers, ballads, and beyond. If you like what you hear, you also might want to check out my jazz Christmas CD, "Welcome, Christmas" (Matt King Trio) which is also available here on CD Baby...and please tell your friends!
A bit about me: I freelance as a professional pianist, keyboardist, Hammond organist, and vocalist in the NYC area, and have performed throughout the USA and 20 other countries as well. I've played and recorded with many jazz artists, including Chuck Loeb, Benny Golson, Billy Hart, Joe Morello, Charles MacPherson, & Claudio Roditi.
My musical philosophy is basically in line with that of the late great Duke Ellington, whom I'll paraphrase:
“There’s only two kinds of music: Good and Bad. And if it SOUNDS good, it IS good!”
So, I hope this music “sounds good” to you – thanks for listening!
