Album Notes
Matt Van Benschoten is a multiinstrumentalist and improvising artist in the jazz and North Indian Classical music traditions. Piano, guitar, bass, voice, sitar, surbahar, and dilruba are featured in his recordings and live performances with the Chris Ho Band, Paul Weitz Trio, Dory Bavarsky Trio, RPM Trio, Sally Jackels Trio, and Aloke and Sanjukta Dasgupta's Raga Ranjani School of Music. His work is inspired by all the great masters of improvisation including Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Leroy Vinnegar, Ron Carter, Miroslav Vitous, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Ravi Shankar, Imrat Khan, and Annapurna Devi.

Endangered Species is the result of research on the bioacoustics of the acupuncture system. Every track is composed to resonate with specific channels of energy related to the function of the internal organs and chakras. The use of instrumentation that relates to the five elements of nature enhances the healing effect. Opening the microcosmic orbit, harmonizing the internal organs, and balancing the chakras through deep relaxation are the goals of the listening experience.
