It happened one beautiful day in the late of Spring. Suspended above a scenic canyon and on the veranda of a nature sanctuary, Hang Artist Matt Venuti recorded Hang Therapy, an intentionally relaxing and completely improvised performance with the sounds of nature providing the ultimate supporting role! Matt wanted to record a CD for massage, yoga, meditation, and general relaxation through the magical resonance of the Hang in an outdoor setting. When
he mentioned this to massage therapist Karesa Bullock, who was already familiar with the therapeutic benefits of Matt's music, the two designed a simple but effective plan to ensure a serene pace...to record the performance in a natural setting while massages were given and received within a few feet of Matt's microphones. With the help of Karesa’s fellow therapist Alena Clancy and her friend Jack Biesek, who owns the beautiful sanctuary, the intention was realized.
Hang Therapy is the sound of the wind gently swaying through the trees. It is the sound of the multiple bird species that sing their unique songs during exchanged visitations. It is the creek below speaking a language that only the wind could truly understand. Hang Therapy is human interaction, the healing touch of one person to another with the intention to relieve the burdens that the body absorbs. It is the sound of a new beginning, an instrument born of the hands of visionaries in a far away land. The instrument is called Hang (pronounced "hung"), which means “hand” in their language. Made by the hand and played with hands, the Hang in Matt Venuti's hands is pure magic. Less concerned with performance and composition, Matt’s artistry opens a doorway to merge with the moment, to slow down time, to listen, to absorb, and to heal.
The water dances across the rocks below
The wind whispers through the trees
In the distance a rooster crows,
while birds of many feathers stop to sing.
As the day unfolds from its crips beginnings
into the warming glow of the sun...
reflecting the beauty of this moment
are the enchanting sounds of the Hang.
