Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
Ave Verum Corpus (Motet) Kv 618 in D major.
Period of Composition: June 1791, apparently for his friend Anton Stoll, a schoolteacher and choirmaster in Baden (near Vienna - Austria).
Ave verum Corpus is the last sacred work that Mozart completed before his early death. With its ethereal polyphonic construction and overall minimalist structure, this motet is a masterpiece of its kind.
Rarely a musician has touched the most transcendent depths of musical expression with such simplicity.
