ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
200 years ago in Hawaii... there were no plantations, no ranches, no missionaries, no visitor industry, no hotels, no radio, no multitracking, no singing (only chanting), no overdubbing, no lyrics to engage the talking head, no record company formulas... no entertainment industry...

There were a few Hawaiian men and women who were the original recipients of a "new" instrument called a guitar. Sitting in the peaceful splendor of their environment, they created a unique art form called ki ho'alu -- Hawaiian slack key guitar. They were inspired by simple, natural wonders... the little crabs skittering to and fro on the beach, the moon shimmering off the deep seas, the mist swirling around the mountains, the honu (sea turtles) riding the giant rolling waves, the soft whispering tradewinds, the ua lani pili (rains from the near heavens), ...

Island of Peace, the newest release by Doug & Sandy McMaster, is ki ho'alu in this real old style. Nothing more, nothing less.

One of our favorite tracks is the title song, Island of Peace, which was a gift from a baby humpback whale that was born in the middle of Hanalei Bay on February 18, 2002 as we and our sunset slack key 'ohana watched on and serenaded the sun to bed. The name Island of Peace was the gift of a visiting monk.

Awesome renditions of favorite Hawaiian slack key.
The CD is well named. I can imagine joining Doug and Sandy at Hanalei Bay to hear one of their regular sunset concerts, and the peaceful mood this music elicits. This is my new favorite Hawaiian CD. Feel the ALOHA ! Way to go, Guys! Mahalo for your good work !

Just received my Island of Peace CD. Doug and Sandy are truly slack key wizards! The selections are beautifully arranged, and are peaceful and serene. This CD is the perfect antidote for a stressful day; I just close my eyes and I am on a beautiful beach on Kauai at sunset . . .

gregg

from the hand of the master, doug mcmaster
i bought my original copy of island of peace from the hand of doug mcmaster when my wife and i were on kaui this january -- loved listening to them in concert and love the CD.

a few weeks ago we got a call from my son-in-law; our daughter was in the hospital with a brain hemorage.

what could we bring her? she and her brother were raised on Oahu.

in the ICU we played "Island of Peace" our gift to our daughter -- she said, oh, i have to call my mother.

our daughter is fine now, recovering well -- but Island of Peace was a very sweet part of her hospital stay

now she and we each have a copy -- pass it on.

Fantastic!
This CD is wonderful. I can"t stop listening to it. As ususal Doug and Sandy McMaster bring the true style of slack key guitar to us. Amazing Grace is truly beautiful and definitely one of my favorites on this CD. However, it is hard to name a favorite on this one as they are all superb. I can't rate it high enough!!!

This is my third "Island of Peace"!
I've given "Island of Peace" to friends who can't get to Hawaii to hear you. They play it a "gazillion" times and agree with me that it's both relaxing and "happifying."

The next best thing to listening to Doug and Sandy in person is to listen to their cd's. After we played it to quiet seven grandkids at Thanksgiving dinner, I purchased this cd for three families for Christmas.

absolutely love it!
Lovely, relaxing, the music of Hawai'i nei! Close your eyes and you're right there, trade winds blowing, waves shushing and singing the songs of aloha! I truly love this CD.
