Album Notes
MC Swingtet has released “Time’s Right”. The band continues to refine its unique, high energy brand of swing, which bridges the gap between traditional and modern jazz.

“This band sure proves the Big Bang Theory…It just starts out at one point in time and explodes outward…You guys swing!” – Marilyn Keller, vocalist, Portland Oregon.

MC Swingtet has gone through a natural musical and professional evolution over the past sixteen years of its existence...most recently with the addition of reed member John Blegen, who, ably assumed front line responsibilities upon the recommendation of the late Chuck Hedges. The mission of the band has always been to present the music with as much energy, discipline, and professionalism as can be mustered. To have fun and be entertaining while performing has been a top priority for the band as well. The band proves to be dedicated crowd pleasers wherever they perform. With this set of music, MC Swingtet has added several tracks with the great vocalist Marilyn Keller, who sat in while on tour at the Madison Jazz Festival.

MC Swingtet’s previous release, “Live, Tribute to Chuck Hedges” has been receiving international airplay from SKYJAZZ RADIO via Mike Smith in Toronto, Canada, Devin Yamanaka at JAZZRADIO.COM in Palo Alto, California, RADIO SWISS JAZZ, and now from Brett Ringold at BLUEJAZZ RADIO out of Raleigh, North Carolina.

MC Swingtet’s level of musicianship is high, utilizing some of the upper Midwest ’s best jazz musicians including veteran “go to” Milwaukee guitarist/leader Steve Lewandowski, who has shared the concert stage with Gary Burton, Buddy Rich, Yellow Jackets and many others. He is first call on The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and has worked many touring Broadway shows including “Chicago”, “Lion King”, and “Legally Blonde”. Vibraphonist Bob Maynard’s lightning mallet work has graced the quintet since 1999. Kansas City resident John Blegen, reeds, is considered to be one of the finest exponents of swing clarinet in the country today. George Welland has been one of the premier bass players in the Milwaukee area for many years. He has worked with Marion McPartland, Mel Torme, and Rosemary Clooney. Indianapolis native Jack Carr rounds out the band on drums. He has worked with Wes Montgomery, Slide Hampton, Freddy Hubbard, David Baker, and others.

“There’s diversity here, from chamber swing to gypsy jazz, blues, sambas and more” - Mike Drew, Veteran Milwaukee jazz critic and columnist

“Lewandowski has the clean, biting tone of former Oscar Peterson sideman Herb Ellis” – Paul Kosidowski, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, April 3, 2008

“Guitarist Lewandowski’s confident surefootedness is especially impressive” – David Franklin, Jazz Times Magazine, April, 2006
