Album Notes
A Celebration of Life is a collection of songs that reflect on significant moments in life. They include original compositions, as well as familiar and endearing broadway, folk and classical songs.

“Celebrating Gifts” was originally composed for use by the Virginia Tanner Children’s Dance Theater in 2010. As the acorn holds innate, natural power to grow and become a “mighty tree” so does a tiny child carry talents and uniqueness. When nurtured and valued, a human being can become a powerful, positive force within the world.

The next five selections on the CD focus on appreciating the beauty of nature, the blessing of having friendship and connection, being able to let go when death enters, celebrating love and marriage, and recognizing the painful voice of rejection and divorce.

“It’s a Matter of Love” was originally composed in 2007 for a benefit concert for a family in our neighborhood whose home was mostly destroyed by fire after being struck by lightening. It celebrates the mightiness of community when we come together to support each other during individual, difficult times.

"Mama, Mama Catch Me a Star" is a poem by Jane Yolen that was put to music by talented composer Kimberly Marsden. It bears the voice of the imaginative, trusting child, depicting early moments within the parent-child relationship.

The final two selections are contrasting perhaps not only in style but at an emotional level. “Vocalise” is delicious “dark chocolate” with “Rachmaninov moments” of depth and passion.

“I Walk in Beauty” was originally composed for use by the Virginia Tanner Children’s Dance Theater in 2009. It bears a simple yet resonating mantra to spread beauty throughout our own individual spheres.

Musical arrangements are by Barlow Bradford (Utah Chamber Artists), Matt Cropper (Octapella), Michael Dowdle, and Melou Stewart Cline. “A Celebration of Life” is dedicated to the memory of my father D. Michael Stewart, who passed away in 2010.
