Following their “impressive and artistically significant debut” (JazzReview) album on Porto Franco Records, Mercury Falls independently releases "Truth Over Lines" an 8-song recording, funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign, featuring original music created by leader and reed player Patrick Cress with drummer Tim Bulkley, guitarist Roger Riedlbauer, bassist Sam Bevan and vocalist Michelle Amador.
“My vision for the album was to create a sound that combines myriad influences of 70's prog rock and bands like Tortoise, Sigur Ros, Stereolab and Radiohead with influences of experimental jazz artists such as Miles Davis, Tim Berne, John Zorn, and David Torn,” says Cress.
To achieve this, Cress invited band members with a diverse playing and songwriting background. The band members of Mercury Falls have performed and recorded with Jolie Holland, Joanna Newsom, Boz Skaggs, Joshua Redman, String Cheese Incident, Sean Hayes, John Clayton, David Grisman, Bjorkestra, Zed Bias, Polar Pair, Karma, Ben Monder and Scott Amendola.
The band named the album “Truth Over Lines” after a lyric created by Michelle Amador for “Boundaries” (the fourth track on the album) written by Roger Riedlbauer, which they felt reflected the band’s desire to explore modes of expression that traveled easily within and without musical structure.
