ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Marcos Da Silva aka Mestre Barrão is one of the most prolific composers of Capoeira music today. Marcos competed at a young age and was crowned Brazilian Natioinal Champion in Rio de Janeiro in 1982. He opened his school, Grupo Axé Capoeira that same year passing on his vast knowledge and experience. In 1987, he was given the honour and rank of 1st Degree Master by his teacher, Mestre Pirajá. He then moved to Vancouver, BC Canada and opened the country's first Capoeira academy there in 1996. In 2007, he returned to his hometown of Recife, Brazil and currently resides there. Mestre Barrão currently travels the world to teach, conduct workshops and graduation ceremonies all over the world. He is the recipient of many awards, and was instrumental in re-introducing a dance known as Coco de Roda to the popular scene.
Currently, he has dedicated his life to being at the forefront of the evolution of Capoeira and passes on this philosophy to all 20,000 members of his school.
