ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The song writing duo of Smooth Jazz Flugelhorn artist Michael Fair and multi Grammy nominated writer/producer Brandon Barnes once again have come together to create their third project “Back For More.” This CD draws deep from the roots of both writers combining the early influences on Michael of Herb Alpert’s Latin two part harmonies from the Tijuana Brass with Brandon’s R&B and Urban influences from his days in Muscle Shoals and his hit crafting with song writer/R&B artist partner Brian McKnight. The result is a long overdue original and refreshing offering to the smooth jazz genre featuring the Flugelhorn. This CD is a collection of compositions with a number of different “feels” which has culminated into a project with global appeal to a cross-section of listeners. There are hip polished radio ready tunes “Play It like You Mean It” and “Love Goes On.” Vocals spice up two of the songs, “It’s On You” and “You Got to Know” giving these cuts the “Smooth Jazz Adult Contemporary” treatment. "Viaje Elegante" offers up a mix between Latin and Funk and there is the sensual and sultry “What’s Her Name” and the beautiful reflective ballad “A Sad Goodbye.” This project even includes a first for Michael and Brandon, a waltz! The cut “Waltz For Le Le” has been featured at a number of live Nashville events before the project was released. Thirteen original songs comprise this third project; twelve of the tunes composed by the song writing duo of Michael Fair and Brandon Barnes and the afore mentioned tune “Viaje Elegante” composed by Michael Fair alone. All thirteen songs feature melodies carried by Michael’s trademark warm Flugelhorn with detailed background production creating a real aural experience for the listener. It’s a sure bet that anyone who purchases “Back For More” and includes it in their listening rotation will most certainly be enticed to do just as the title suggest and continue coming, “Back For More”! Enjoy!!

His album is tenderhearted, emotional, full of feeling and subtle. Michael Fair
When it comes to trumpet and flugelhorn some will remember Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good" or Rick Braun's "Notorious". Michael Fair calls himself a leader in the smooth jazz genre, specializing in flugelhorn and trumpet playing. After his debut album "Love Me Like That" (2002) and his second album "How Close Are We" (2003) "Back For More" (2006) is his third collaboration with writer/producer Brandon Barnes who plays keyboards, bass, string, guitar and drum programming on all songs. Brandon Barnes is especially known by his work with Brian McKnight. Brandon is a guarantor for musical quality.

When it comes to trumpet and flugelhorn some will remember Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good" or Rick Braun's "Notorious". The album starts with Viaje Elegante. The Spanish title is conjuring up some Latin flavors in the kind of Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass sound. It's On You combines elements of smooth jazz with R&B. Melanie Barnes' vocal refrain is a take-off point for Michael's flugelhorn-escapades. A more slower approach is What's Her Name. A tune for a romantic hour. Play It Like You Mean It has certainly more fire and agility. When I Think Of You changes the tempo between slow and uptempo. Slow for a contemplative mood and quick for the wake-up call. Love Goes On is a radio-friendly tune with appealing hooks. Certainly the tune with the highest potential for a commercial success published in a single version. Michael Fair's more measured playing is infected by Brandon Barnes R&B rhythm. Havana Funk showcases Michael Fair's view of Funk in an uptempo version. You Gotta Know is a smooth ballad featuring Brandon's sultry vocals and Michael Fair celestial flugelhorn. R&B in the style of Babyface with a jazzy overtone. The title tune is a swinging tune with a repeating melody. I like especially Brandon's short keyboard solo and the overdub arrangement. Lost Again begins with familiar kalimba sound, known by EWF. The kalimba is a thumb-piano in the West, a lamellaphone of Eastern Central and South West Africa. The tune smoothes out into Michael Fair's flugelhorn recital.
Think about your mood when you leave a beloved person. Michael Fair expresses that sorrowful feelings in A Sad Goodbye. The mood brightens up again with the midtempo Ta Keeh Ah. Michael Fair interpretation is flowing like a river. Waltz for Le Le is unique. A smooth jazz musician is playing a Waltz. The song was originally performed at Nashville weddings.

Great music
The Flugel horn is my favourite instrument so I did an internet search. Luckily it was like picking a needle from a haystack. Great music !

Beckoning in the sales
I'm really enjoying the CD and have played it
here at work. I think there may be a few orders for it generating from the tunes my co-workers hear!

Captive to the stereo
Your new album has seldom been out of my car stereo since I got it! Looking forward to more of your recordings as they come along.

Maybe we'll get to hear you live some day!
Congratulations on another fine CD! I have played "Nylon Samba" on "How Close Are We?", your previous CD, so much that I actually wore out my CD player!

Another great cd!
After buying the combo and playing them to death, I had to come back for this one, too - and I'm glad I did! Great CD with just enough variety from the first two - it's the same great sound, but just different enough to not be repetitive. Hmmm - 3 spots in my CD changer, and 3 CD's from Michael Fair.. Coincidence? I think not!

This is one voyage I want to take!
Michael Fair’s third collaboration with Brandon Barnes takes you on a musical adventure. Along the way you are treated to unexpected twists and turns that leave you musically soaked and breathless.

From the opening cut Viaje Elegante, a spicy and sophisticated tune, to the simplicity and beauty of the final, Waltz for Le Le, you are swept along, sometimes at neck break speed and other times at a slow leisurely pace, but always with eager anticipation for the next bend in the river. Michael’s trumpet flows effortlessly in and out and around the other instruments and occasional vocals like a musical striptease. You want more. Make sure your lifejacket is securely on before starting this journey or you may be swept away. This is one voyage I want to take!

every track was beautifully written. i have listened to it over and over and over again. it makes you want to come back ror more.

Back for More
I have never, ever, experienced a collection so jam packed with wonderful songs. When I think of You is the essence of my soul. I want to warn you, listening to this CD will bring about your addiction to it! Why this man doesn't rule the world with his Flugelhorn I don't understand, and after listening to the album, I know you'll agree!
