Album Notes
The Chapman Stick® is a radical new development in the stringed instrument world. Tapped with both hands (more like a piano than a guitar), The Chapman Stick has components of bass, guitar, keyboards and drums. It is capable of simultaneous multi-part arrangements and is possibly the most expressive musical instrument ever devised. Michael Kollwitz was one of the inventor's first students and is one of the instrument's earliest pioneers. Everything you hear on this album was performed exclusively using the new Chapman 12-string Stick Guitar® (SG12™) and all tracks (except track 18) were recorded LIVE under the banyan tree in Old Town Lahaina, Maui. Enjoy!

One of the instrument's earliest pioneers and one of Emmett Chapman's first students, Michael is a Chapman Stick virtuoso with 38 years experience. Played with both hands using a pianistic technique on a stringed instrument, the Chapman Stick is unique, versatile and probably the most expressive musical instrument ever devised. The result is music that sounds unlike any other instrument.

Devoted to spreading Knowledge of the Chapman Stick, Michael has performed at over a thousand festivals, fairs & corporate events combined. Carlos Santana said his music is "a gift from the heart". He's been an opening act for The Beach Boys and has introduced many to the new instrument including Mick Fleetwood, Herbie Hancock, Keith Emerson, Steve Morse and others.

His albums and music have spread worldwide and he's shared his talents with well over a million people in the last decade. His music has been featured on national radio, television appearances and a short documentary. His musical style encompasses light jazz, classic rock, latin, Hawaiian and other influences. With a catalog of 19 releases he is the most prolific Chapman Stick recording artist to date.

Hear the constant motion of the waves breaking on the shore.
I wanted to let you know that my favorite songs on Rainbows are Latin city, Banyam tree Blues Jam and Côte d'Azur. ... I really hear the constant motion of the waves breaking on the shore. Globally I really like what you wrote! Congratulations!

Great Album by a fine musician
Michael Kollwitz's Rainbows is a great album and a pleasure to listen to. The variety of musical styles from classical to blues to the Beatles shows the range and love of music brought out by this talented artist. Michael is a master of this most unusual instrument, the Chapman Stick.

The sound of the New "STICK'' even more distinct and clear.
Aloha Michael, Thanks for your rendition of Carlos Santana's song, "EL FAROL".   As a Jazz Musician who had classical training as well, I enjoyed the 'Baroque'  feeling and the transition greatly. The sound of the New "STICK'' seems to be even more distinct and clear. Keep up the great work. Hope to see  and hear you at 'The Banyan Tree' soon.

Definitely one of the "cans"
You remain completely awesome, and I'm always happy to tell and share that with the rest of the world. Remember, there are only two kinds of people in the world, those who can and those who cannot play the Chapman Stick, and you are definitely one of the "cans."

Its hard to pick a favorite
The stick is a fascinating instrument and Michael knows what he is doing with this mysterious contraption in his hands. I think I've heard most of his recordings and they're all very good. Its hard to pick a favorite. Keep up the good work Michael.

Love your Rainbows CD
It was a pleasure talking with you and I love your Rainbows CD.
Gayl and I were visiting on the day of celebration for the Banyan and I spoke with you while you were tuning up,
and then later in the afternoon when you and the dog were taking a break on our way back to the cruise ship.
We plan to return to Maui when we can stay longer. I will subscribe to your newsletter to stay informed of upcoming performances.

We love “Rainbows”
We love “Rainbows” (purchased during the art fair under the Banyan Tree in March. My husband has it on his MP3 player in his car and I have it in my car CD player. Have a great summer.

Listening to it constantly
We got the Rainbows CD, and have been listening to it constantly. You always sounded good. But, after all these years of practice, your music is truly masterful- "Rainbows" is flawless beauty. We'll be buying multiple copies when we work out our Christmas-gift budget... everyone's getting one!
Lookin' forward to your next CD, and to catching your act the next time you visit the U.S. mainland.

The music is mellow and so enjoyable
We have listened to "Rainbows" and it's delightful. What a nice combination of oldies and Michael Kollwitz compositions. Perfect !!!! We first met Michael Kollwitz and his Chapman Stick at an International Music Festival in Modesto, Calif. After that meeting, we followed him to many venues to enjoy his Chapman Stick music. The tones of this instrument are so different as are the styles of playing it. It's not like a guitar, harp, piano or any other stringed instrument. The music is mellow and so enjoyable. I had thought my favorite CD was the duet with the wooden flute, but now I believe I just love it all. We are fortunate to have a lovely collection of his CDs and enjoy them often. Best of all is sitting under the beautiful Banyan tree at Lahaina, Maui, and listening to Michael's music in person? You did a masterful job putting "Rainbows" together. Love Banyan Tree Blues Jam. And all the others, of course.

The Chapman Stick is a fascinating instrument
First the Chapman Stick is a fascinating instrument. What a unique art form...then there is Michael....who takes the art form to a special place with his spirit of Aloha. He and several local Maui artists have become identified AS Maui. No visit is ever complete without seeing them or there artful creations. Thank you Michael for all you do
