"A stunning debut from a highly talented writer..."
With a voice similar to Ben Folds and a flowing piano style comparable to Elton John, you might expect the debut album from San Francisco based singer/songwriter Jeff Michaels to be just another album full of sappy piano ballads or a rip off of a style that's been done many times before. But the unique sound of RED JACKET hits you right from the pounding, opening piano chords, and you quickly realize this is not the case.
Red Jacket spans the spectrum of alt rock to intimate singer/songwriter prose, all done with a radio ready major label production quality and obvious attention to the art of song crafting.
Red Jacket features some of Northern California's finest musicians, including Steve Bowman (Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind), Matt Blackett (Luce, Guitar Player Magazine), and members of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
Highlight tracks include the catchy Going Back To Bed, and the poignant Ciarda and Ballad of Sam Browning.
"I'm a big fan of story songs," says Michaels, citing Adam Duritz from the Counting Crows and Bruce Springsteen as two of his mentors. "I think if you can somehow immortalize someone in a song, and make a listener step into their shoes for just a moment and really feel what their life is like, if only just for a moment... well, then you've done your job as a songwriter."
Red Jacket producer Adam Rossi (Luce, Kenny G, Savage Garden) refers to the album as New Frontier Rock. Whether that new frontier may be providing accompaniment for a drive down the coast or just a rainy afternoon, this record will undoubtedly find its way to the repeat playlists of iPods and CD players for years to come.
ABOUT THE BAND...
Even Elroy came together in the summer of 2003 when Michaels began recruiting band members in support of his debut album. Since then, the group has performed all throughout Northern California, building up a solid following with their unique blend of quirkiness and pure rock in their highly energetic live act. They have sold hundreds of records while earning their mark as a headlining act with performances at such notable venues as Slims in San Francisco, as well as appearing live on the Bay Area's KFOG 104.5FM.
Michaels is also a multiple-award winning member of the West Coast Songwriters Association, and the original keyboardist for the acclaimed San Francisco band LUCE, who's song Good Day graced the national airwaves and appeared in shows on NBC, the WB, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey), and 13 Going on 30 (Jennifer Garner).
