Album Notes
Anyone who knows Michelle, Monique and Michael Creber at all knows that they really, really love Christmas. They love everything about it: snow, evergreen trees, decorations, big family dinners, the celebration of light in the darkness of winter, the spirit of love and generosity...and, of course, the music. All three are professional entertainers with busy careers as actor, singer and dancer (Michelle), vocalist, teacher and producer (Monique), and composer, producer and pianist (Michael) - but when the idea of recording a family Christmas album came up recently, they were immediately ready to make it happen. They wondered, though: would anyone besides them so much as notice yet another holiday-themed album, even a beautifully-produced one featuring A-list musicians and fantastic pop/jazz repertoire?

13-year-old Michelle, who has a large and enthusiastic fan following, put the question out on Facebook and Twitter: if my parents and I were to release a Christmas CD...would anyone be interested? The response was an immediate and resounding YES!! Many of those same fans subsequently donated to an Indiegogo campaign, generously supporting both the production of the album and (indirectly) the cause to which partial proceeds from CD sales will be donated: PLAN International's "Because I Am A Girl" campaign, which addresses the issue of gender inequality in developing countries and promotes women's rights.

A Creber Christmas is a collective community project, full of the best kind of Christmas spirit. It's a collection of pop/jazz holiday classics that has the sparkle and polish of a bright new Christmas ornament, combined with the warmth of a family holiday at home. Fans of Michelle's debut album (Timeless: Songs of a Century) know that she's got style, technique and versatility far beyond her years; no matter the song, she does something amazing and different with it. Her parents Monique and Michael are accomplished musician/producers in their own right, and their combined talent and experience shines through on every track. Toe-tapping modern favourites ("Santa Claus is Coming to Town", "Rockin' Christmas", "Jingle Bells" a la Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, "Christmas, Baby Please Come Home" ) mingle with beloved traditional carols ("Silent Night", "Petit Papa Noel") and heartfelt ballads ("Someday At Christmas", "The Night Before Christmas", "From Our House To Yours"), atmospheric jazz instrumentals ("Linus & Lucy", "Some Children See Him") and more. A Creber Christmas has something for everyone, with the added benefit of spreading the spirit of the season by supporting an important cause (see http://becauseiamagirl.ca for more information).

Fam, What A Damily!
I'm not a big fan of Christmas albums. The only ones I love are those by Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, and James Taylor. But to that list must now be added A CREBER CHRISTMAS. The breadth and depth of talent and skill here are truly staggering: a record this varied and this perfect should have required the services of the whole roster of a very eclectic record label. I can't think of a musical genre they forgot, and they nailed each one. I already knew the work of Mike and Monique, and own all their CDs (full disclosure: about 20 years ago, Mike co-produced four songs on a long-out-of-print CD of mine), but this was my introduction to Michelle, and I'm going to hunt down her other recordings. The Creber fireside must be an awesome place to be on Christmas Eve.

Don't listen to me: just listen to those samples....
