ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mira Tessman is a teacher of yoga and meditation and a licensed psychotherapist in Baltimore, Maryland. Her yoga students have said, “she is amazing, and her voice is strong and stirring, yet feels safe,” and “she always takes me to a deep place of relaxation, not just in my body, but in my mind and spirit.” After her students repeatedly asked her to record some of her creative and inspiringly memorable savasanas, she invited her life partner David Heath to help, and “Ocean Savasana” is the first such collaboration. David gathered and edited a soundscape that might be the ambient backdrop for the savasana portion (typically the last ten minutes of a yoga class) of one of Mira’s seaside yoga classes with medium-sized waves gently tumbling over the shells, stones, and sand of a warm and gorgeous tropical beach. The cadence of the waves, the occasional calls of shore birds, and a distant ship and wind chime form the peaceful outer accompaniment to Mira’s guided relaxation as meanwhile on the inside, our pulse slows, the nervous chatter in our heads gives way to a joyful presence and openness, and any anxiety is washed away by the waves and Mira’s warm, supportive voice soothing and relaxing each part of our body.

“Mira” means “ocean” in Sanskrit, and can mean “Behold!” in Spanish.
