In the mean time
Miriam Ahuvat-El(Ohevet-El) Iron Is a Jerusalemite singer and song-writer, the descendant of a Hassidic family from Karlin who arrived from White Russia to Israel as early as 1846. In this, her third CD, she has chosen to share with her listeners, the most valuable treasures she received from her Hassidic father – the Shabbat Songs, Niggunim and Birkat Hamazon that she sang with her father and her family at the Shabbat Table. Some of the melodies were passed down through the generations, from the time of the great Hassidic Rebe, Reb Araleh Hagadol of Karlin, who was part of the circle of the Baal Shem Tov. Miriam Ahuvat-El delivers in her warm, deep voice, the authentic spirit of the "Shabbes Zmires" – the way her father sang them. Yet at the same time these melodies have been enhanced by modern touches of jazz, swing and soul music which her wonderful musicians add. The chorus made up of her cousins and friends adds the flavor of a Hassidic "Tish". It is easy to sing along, as the CD comes with English transliterations as well as translations of the songs.
