"Miriam Pico has an amazing voice and she writes beautiful, melodic songs. She draws the crowd in with her sincere enthusiasm for performing, you would think that she was born on the stage; she is so incredibly comfortable and personable. I can't wait to see her play again!" -Terri Ray, D.J. and Program Director, WKLT/WKLZ
Miriam Pico was born in 1983 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, and has lived in Northern Michigan since the age of three. She is a very talented, guitar playing singer/songwriter with a quickly growing fan base and a reputation for putting on an amazing show. She began writing songs at age ten, and began singing professionally at age eleven at local functions, including church, sporting events, weddings, fundraisers, talent shows and the club scene.
Miriam's songs are sung in a refreshingly new and melodic way. Her music can be classified as "singer/songwriter/pop", however if you listen more closely, you will see that she drifts easily between blues, pop/rock, latin, jazz and even folk, in a way reminiscent of one of her major influences, the late Eva Cassidy. Her style of songwriting has proven to be a crowd pleaser, regardless of who she is performing for, and her clear, smooth vocal sound is top-notch. The songs on the "City Dreams" album include brother Cris Pico on percussion, Ed Szymanski on bass guitar, and Willy Jam on lead guitar.
Her song, "She Waits" has been receiving airplay on WKLT and it was chosen to appear on the exclusive WKLT Northern Michigan Rocks Volume 5 c.d., an annual compilation disk. Miriam also won the WKLT Northern Michigan Rocks Battle of the Bands, in May of 2005. She has written approximately 200 songs, 17 of which have been recorded at Frontier Recording in Copemish, Michigan.
"City Dreams", Miriam's debut album of original songs, was released in May of 2005. For more information please visit www.miriampico.com.
