The Princess of Dance
by Alana Trevino Itaya
For thousands of girls every year, ballet class is a rite of passage – a first exploration of movement and expression in pink tights and tutus. Here in Los Angeles, we have a magical teacher who seems as if she stepped off the screen of a Disney Princess film, and is guiding children through their first experience with dance.
Miss Melodee is a singer, dancer, and teacher, and is as sweet as her name suggests. She is exactly the person you would want guiding children through activities of self-expression and confidence - full of love for her subject and the children she teaches. She instills joy, passion, and imagination by creating a safe environment for them to learn and grow, in what is sure to be the beginning of a life-long passion. To her students, and anyone who meets her, she is the princess you knew had to exist in the realm of children’s dance instruction – and she is creating a world of wonderful dance opportunities, all of which help her continue to spread her love of dance and song.
Miss Melodee began the journey towards her dream by teaching in small classroom settings as an elementary student, and knew even at that moment that her path in life would include teaching. After instructing at numerous dance studios in the Southern California area, life has brought her to the recent ownership of her very own dance studio - The Ballet Barre Academy in Tarzana. This studio is merging with Miss Melodee to incorporate a magical world of dance as Miss Melodee shares her love of dance and song. But her desire to inspire and instill the love of dance goes far beyond the classroom as she continues to expand with CDs, DVD’s, Books, apps, and music videos.
Her entry point is simple and yet magical. She has created a whole world of animated dancing shoes, each with their own strengths, to appeal to a wide variety of little dancers. The world of “Boogieland,” and its lively characters, are also found in the games on her upcoming App, in the book, the music videos, and can be found on items from her online store. Her website allows you to interact with these charming characters as the child enters a world where dance and song reign supreme, and Miss Melodee is there teaching and having fun in this online classroom environment.
When looking for an at-home fix for a rainy day, Miss Melodee’s You Tube channel is full of mini dance lessons, songs and imagination exercises sure to enthrall any child. Miss Melodee just premiered her first music video, “JUMP”, which tells the heartwarming story about jumping into your dreams with joy and courage. “The LaLaLa Song” music video will captivate even the most active of toddlers as she moves and sings in a charming beach scene. Both videos were expertly directed by Joseph Itaya, and they will delight, inspire, and bring tears as parents watch their children fully engaged in wholesome, active movement. Her music inspires not only dance, but song, combining positive messages with modern dance beats to create a dance class whenever it is played. The songs will stay in your head long after the last track has played, and you will find a smile fixed on your face for the duration.
All of her work shares the joy of dance within life. Her magical dancing world is meant to instill confidence, health and provide a safe space for learning, all while exploring movement through imagination. As she continues to find new ways of sharing this love, she is touching the hearts and dreams of so many more beyond the classroom. Her popular 10 Song CD “Dancing with Miss Melodee” has been approved for all ages by the Dove foundation, recently won a “Parents Choice Award” and has been nominated for the 11th Annual Independent Music Awards for best children’s album. She continues to spread her “pure heart values” that ensure “no limitations”, and the belief that the children she works with “can be anything they want to be”.
