Matt grew up in Canistota, South Dakota, and started playing the piano at age 12. He has been writing and composing music ever since. Today, some of Matt's performance resume includes NBC's Access Hollywood's 2002 Christmas Party, The Mall of America, Three appearances at Washington D.C.'s Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Georgetown University Conference Center, the 2006 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder Event, McKennan Park, Festival of Cultures, Minneapolis' International Airport, Washington Pavilion, and USD's Farber Hall.
Matt continues to expand his audiences with his unique playing style and sound. In the fall of 1999, Matt's first CD "Crossing the Bridge" was released under his own label, Mayer Music LLC. Today, he has produced 8 solo piano albums, with his most recent release "Full of Grace".
Matt attended the University of South Dakota where he graduated with his Bachelors in Business Administration along with taking another year of formal piano training and education. After college, Matt spent a semester developing and facilitating a course at the university. The course was called 'The Business of Music' and it was a first in USD's history to combine the departments of the fine arts program and the business school. After teaching in 2001, Matt moved to California where he worked at NBC's entertainment television show Access Hollywood. After a couple years, he moved back to the Midwest and attained his Masters degree in Business Administration from USD. Matt currently performs to a variety of audiences nationwide with the goal of touching people's hearts through the medium of solo piano music.
