The Book & the Flower

by Mundi

This instrumental band performs music that is a most unusual merging of genres. It's a little Classical, a little folk and a little rock, among other things. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra meets Philip Glass at the Rennaissance Fest, says a fan.

Album Notes
With Spanish guitar, violin, cello, bass, and an arsenal of percussion (both traditional and found), Mundi masterfully creates a sound that is rich, celebratory, dynamic, and deeply emotive. The quintet infuses their old world compositions with the energy and vitality of their diverse influences - Paganini to pop, rock to Rachmaninoff, 'Flea' to folk. The truth is, this ensemble's vision is old and new, classical and contemporary.

Having just released their sophomore album, "The Book & the Flower" the members of Mundi are speaking of it with pride and excitement. Mundi promises music of celebration and lament within the CD. Given their recent tour of Spain, two Spanish pieces are on the track list, and also "The Alphonse Suite" - a series of three cantigas from the court of Spanish King Alphonse X.

Musicians of Mundi are:

Music director/guitarist: Darrel Mayers
Violinist: Bruce Colson
Cellist: Carolyn Hagler
Bassist: Mario Gonzalez
Percussonist: Ric Furley

Lush, Intricate, Beautiful and Compelling. Buy it!
I am rarely drawn to instrumental music, yet this disc sucked me in like few before. The sound is like a cross between the Kronos Quartet, Bear McCreary's score to "Battlestar Galactica", and some of the better trance groups with exquistite execution and polish.

Aside from its technical merits, this disk provides some profound emotional impacts; sorrow, joy, cogitation, and more are all present and accounted for.

Buy this one. You'll like it! Cross my heart.

love the exotic compelling sounds!
When I heard the ancient unique sounds of Mundi for the first time, it was from this CD on Echoes. I am awaiting my personal copy of this CD. This is one of my top 10!

Majestically presented and mystical in its'content. It takes me to a special splace.

A wonderful CD. Played it for my husband and 23-year-old daughter and they said it was so very relaxing and such enjoyable listening.
