Album Notes
The theme first appeared in October 2012 - I was horribly, almost clinically depressed and as is often the case, sat down at the piano and out popped this little nugget of an idea. It's taken half a year to track it down and develop it fully but I'm pretty stoked with the end result.

Written for Piano and three strings, this is just the solo piano track - even though I hear the other parts in my head (and have published a few examples) I think it stands alone as a solo piano piece and felt it should be published as such.

Called Frustration 2 to reflect not only how I was feeling at the time, but to also acknowledge the style and feel of the original Frustration track which has proved to be pretty popular. I will be developing the strings over the coming months and will publish as soon as it is ready.

The thing that stands out for this track is of course the video - the glow sticks! I'd been looking for a video format that would make sense with the whole "music to work to" idea; you need a visual representation because it's YouTube but you can't have anything too "sticky" as that defeats the purpose of the music.

Thanks to rise in the EDM world there are a lot of glow sticks in stores at the moment - we were going camping with the family and I'd bought a load just for fun. Jake had rigged up a tree swing and we had spent an hysterical evening covering people in glowing tubes and watching them sway in the darkness.

On getting back to the studio I had the demented idea of taping the sticks to my fingers and seeing what it looked like. After a bit of trial and error and the purchase of way too many boxes of surgical gloves I found a solution that didn't distract from my playing but that looked - if I say so myself - pretty freakin' cool.

I'm super excited to develop the string parts using the same approach - in my head I can see the cellos, violas and violins all in different block colors superimposed on top of the piano track with varying opacity layers. Because everything is moving in time with the music, I think it's going to look totally unique and totally awesome. Watch out for updates to the YouTube channel as that's where we post the development tracks.
