ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
What you hold in your hand is a CD with recordings of masterpieces by tree outstanding composers. I dared to take these very well know pieces, performed often by big symphonic orchestras, and arrange them for a quartet of two wind instruments, guitar and violoncello, dedicating them to Musica Gaudeans, an ensemble I am member of. I met with an exceptionally warm response from my colleagues and their readiness not only to provide consultations regarding instrument-related possibilities of some parts but also to undergo very challenging rehearsals prior to the first concert performance. I owe them my thanks. The Musica Gaudeans quartet has had these compositions in its repertoire for several years. When people read an advertisement or a programme and see these titles, their reactions are somewhat hesitant and full of doubt. However, they turn very positive. The listeners’ feedback together with frequent requests for a recording has inspired us to compile CD that would include compositions which we do not put in a single concert performance, since they are technically demanding. This CD should surprise and please also those musical connoisseurs whom we have not had the chance to welcome at any of our concerts yet. Allow me, on behalf of all the members of our ensemble, to express the hope that we have – at least partially succeeded in accomplishing this task.
Pavel Ciboch
