If you've ever seen a Musical Blades show before, you understand that you're not just watching a music group. It's more like you're watching a loosely scripted variety show, full of improvisation, with an array of musical styles. And though many of our songs are based on traditional sound and true piratical stories, an even bigger portion is modernized, and tends to take the listener closer to visions of Hollywood pirates than it does to historical pirates. Never before have we released a CD that has taken the listener this close to what they might witness while watching us on stage!
Modern Day Pirate, the Fall 2010 release by Musical Blades, mixes every style that audiences have come to expect from the Blades and then some, and for the first time since "Surrender the Booty" contains full comedy skits, much of it improvised on the fly. Plus this is our first CD ever to host guest musicians, a guest singer, and a guest song writer. We are very proud and honored that the following talent gave us the time of day...
Rachel Gaither: Violin (Cryin Shame)
Kelsey Reid: Oboe (Final Trawl, Cryin Shame)
Mark Ross: Viola (Fitted for me Chains, Final Trawl)
Rob Sansonetti: Song Writer (Briney Foam)
Amanda Lewis: Vocalist (Final Trawl)
300 years in the making.... 20 Tracks of piratey goodness... You're going to LOVE this new CD!
What are people saying about Musical Blades?
"I've been telling all kinds o' people about your music, everybody digs at least some of it. Your group does a great job of treating nonsensical songs with a fun, casual nature while giving the more profound songs the respect they deserve, too few musicians find that balance. I'm definitely going to check you guys out live someday, do you ever make it out to the Denver area? I know the Broncos won't be using Mile High stadium past December, maybe you could play there. LOL."
"...I've recently stumbled across your music on iTunes. I was looking for a version of Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum that isn't on a kid's album. You guys blew me away! I love traditional folk songs, Irish songs, sea songs and a good story-song, and you guys fit the bill. I've listened to Johnny Home about fifty times in two days... I have a dozen versions of whiskey in the jar and yours kicks ass!"

"My first year working at the Kansas City Renn Fest....was 1983. Ive seen tons of musical groups and acts come and go and I can say, with a certain amount of certainty that your guys (Musical Blades) are simply one of the most entertaining and fan approachable groups that has ever graced our stages. Its no wonder you have amassed the fan base you've got. Not to mention the accumulation of new original material, keepin it fresh. Not that it means much coming from me (Im a Nobody :) but you continue to Impress me with your passion to entertain..."

I've been a fan of the Blades in the first time I saw them in Wichita. I travel to
KC to see them several times a year and have every album.

One of, if not the best pirate bands in the Mid-West! The Blades have a following that packs the house everywhere they appear. Not your typical Pirate band by any means!

wonderful songs and heart full of joy." / "I first fell in love with the blades in Fall of 07 at the Wichita RenFest and own 3 of the 4 albums all autographed. "I got to actually see the Musical Blades here at the OKRF in Muskogee, OK for the first time ever..." "...We were lucky to have them even if it was only the first two weekends of our five weekend festival. We even got to preview one of the new songs, fabulous, you can't help but sing it out loud. "I’ve gotten to hear a good deal of their unreleased material, and I have to say the next Studio album will be pretty amazing. This is coming from me, who doesn’t normally go in for this style of music. The festival atmosphere combined with perfect five part harmony is pretty near impossible to beat."
-Mark Temple (Tales of the Aggronaut - WoW Blog)
"I saw you guys at the Ren Faire yesterday and just wanted to say that you play amazing music. hoping to come back sometime in the next couple of weekends and see you again. keep pumpin out those albums and ill keep buying!"

"Without a doubt, what you come to the Renaissance Festival for! The finest group of Pirates, featuring some of the best music you can find. The Blades are destined to be a legend in the Renaissance circle."
-Joplin, MO Renaissance Festival web site
"On their new album, Piratically Incorrect, the Musical Blades show themselves to be a band that fits the pirate mould to a T, while at the same time defying stereotypes and common trends. Their music is soulful yet strong - many of their songs speak of the sort of non-denominational spirituality one finds when clinging to the railing during a squall, while others demonstrate the irreverance one exhibits once making it safely ashore again (and thusly to the nearest tavern.)..."

"And to shake things up, there was a new addition to the circuit, Musical Blades, a group composed of raunchy pirates. (As if there was any other kind). They were so good that I sacrificed the last of my beer money to buy their CD which was promptly autographed by the lot of them..."

"All told, "A Knife to Remember" is a decent, if not stellar, pirate album. In it, The Musical Blades show real talent - they clearly have what it takes to place themselves on the piratey charts. This skill is clearly displayed on several songs, making this a fine album for any piratey collection."
