The Musical Magi (Bob Stewart, Ginger Bisel) and Burk’art Clayworks (Sue Burkhart Chisholm) combined their artistic talents and transported the spirit of the Holiday season from a wish to a reality.
It was a hot and humid June day in Georgia this past Spring. Relaxing over ice tea, the three friends started reminiscing. One conversation lead to another and soon all were talking about Christmas. The discussion about family traditions and the value of celebrating the meaning of Christmas brought back great stories and memories. Wishing for that wonder, relaxed pace, and crisp cold weather...the three decided the Holidays just weren’t the same.
Sue had been researching the art history of the Nativity. Art history links Nativities back to the catacombs of ancient Rome. Continuing her research, she found a painting by Piero della Francesca (1415-75) who placed musical minstrels at the Nativity. That discovery was an “ah-ha” moment. The idea hit...why not combine the musical talents of Bob and Ginger along with Sue’s sculpted clay Nativity Scene. “Musical Magi”, music for the Nativity was created!
The delicious sounds of Ginger on the Muramatsu flutes, sax and synthesizer and Bob on guitar, bass, mandolin, and ukulele present an acoustic, new age twist to familiar Christmas carols. Add a dash of humor, love of music, and friendship, and “presto!” the Musical Magi CD brings home the warmth of the season.
Bob Stewart, owner of Enclave Christian Artists (ECA) recording studio, Woodstock, Ga, loves to help others develop their musical and spiritual talents. His musical background is rooted in a lifetime of bluegrass/country but his styles also include rock n’ roll, jazz, praise and worship and a bit of classical. He teaches guitar and photography at Kennesaw University, Chattahoochee Technical College as well as offering recording services at ECA.
Ginger Bisel has been playing flute, sax and piano for over 40 years. She devotes her time between teaching music students, performing, composing, recording and being “mom”. Classically trained on flute, with a Master’s in Music from University of Miami Fl, her love of improvisation crosses over to new age, jazz, praise and worship, and latin styles.
