Album Notes
New England-based songwriter-singer-pianist Nadine Laughlin's debut CD 'Beautiful Mystery' contains 10 original songs ranging from solo piano and voice ('Beautiful Mystery' and 'Staying') to rich and haunting Irish-whistle filled pieces ('Pray for Grace' and 'Almost Gone') to strong band and thick harmony laden songs (like 'What If' and 'Broken Glass'). She has very special guest contributions by Gordon Bok, and by Matthew Heaton of "Siucra".

The songs tell the stories of the sorrows and joys of real life, and the beauty and strength of the human spirit that carries and leads us through.

2008 NEWS! I am currently at work on a new album being recorded in Jamaica, West Indies where I live much of the year. I look forward to the contributions of some very beautiful people and fine musicians! New energy!

2006 NEWS! 'Pray for Grace' is included on the celtic-style compilation album 'Beautiful Embrace' released March 2006 by Strathan Music in Scotland. Nadine joins Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams, Vince Gill, Maire Brennan, Capercaille and other very fine artists on this new album!

'Go East' from the album "Beautiful Mystery" is on "Before Their Time - Volume 3" - a compilation CD of songs to support healing in times of grief, released Fall 2004. Volumes 1 and 2 included songs from Eva Cassidy, Beth Neilsen Chapman, Gordon Bok, Ellis Paul, and Kate Rusby among many other very fine songwriters. The project is a benefit for hospice and suicide prevention groups. For more info:

Some unsolicited comments from listeners:

" 'Beautiful Mystery' is hands down the most touching and inspiring songwriting, composing, and performing I've heard. You have a powerful ability to convey the emotions, the feelings of the songs."

"Your singing and your compositions are, to me, one and the same. And by that I mean they are so naked, true, sincere, natural, unaffected, and beautiful, that at times I feel like I'm eaves dropping on you. This honesty is what music was originally based on, and what it needs today."

"Such a beautiful thing you have made; so honest, so heartfelt, and clear. Thank you. Bless you."

"At the first note my breath draws in, my heart stops. I sit on the edge of my bed - coffee and oatmeal growing cold and forgotten - as I sit transfixed by sound and words. The music ...warm, full of love, tears, and beauty....."

Beautiful doesn't begin to describe this Album
Heard "Almost Gone" on the radio driving home from the capitol one night, kept repeating the title the rest of the ride, hoping to get the chance to hear it again- Low And behold, I found it- and much more- thanks to the internet, and CD BABY-
These songs touch a deep place within me- and nourish my soul.

Great voice, but songs lack variety
I agree wit hthe other reviewers that Nadine's voice is terrific, but I'm less taken with her songwriting. Can't help thinking that a few covers would have given this album some much-needed variety. Still, well worth a listen.

This is my tenth copy! My friends all need this!
This CD is stunning! It is a gracious mix of emotion-plucking lyrics and spirit. I am buying it to distribute to friends. Do not miss this oportunity to understand more of this life we are living!

Great music with passion, soul and a beautiful voice!
Nadine Laughlin has tapped into something wonderful!. Her music envelops the listener, with her beautiful voice, reminiscent of Carole King and Carly Simon. Her piano playing is absolutely mezmorizing along with her thought provoking lyrics and harmonies!. My favorite tracks are The Flame, Pray For Grace, Davie, Beautiful Mystery and What If. Her music is spellbinding! pairing Nadine with some special guest contributions and lush instrumentation. The simplicity of this album is wonderful and gives the music more meaning than the overproduced layered albums of the commercial mainstream. This CD will be in my player for months to come!. For a debut album, this effort is wonderful and leaves me longing for Nadine's next great work!.

Tamara Turner, CD Baby

Weaving the melodic elegance of contemporary female piano pop the familiar, classic warmth of Karen Carpenter, the reverberating vocal richness of Anne Murray and Carol King, and the Celtic tinges of Mary Black, Nadine bridges lush female pop with adult contemporary soft rock and easy listening. With bright, vivid piano lines fully fleshed-out with drums and a variety of backups, the entirety of her album is a careful pleasure to experience. This is music that reminds you to take a deep breath and cherish the small moments.

Again something rich and beautiful to listen to
Cant wait for you to compose another album.
Ever think about touring ireland, you would go down a treat.

Remarkable songs and music..
Everything Nadine says with her music is in every shimmer of her voice, it's a profound caring for human experience, respect for love and appreciation for the miracle of simply being alive. I don't know a deeper writer. Sometimes, the gist of what calls us from every turn of life gets spoken in the work of an artist, and Nadine offers that sympathy the wings of flowing expression
