Album Notes
After many years playing the folk music circuit both as a duo, in bands and for the last 15 years with The Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club, Neil and Judy are putting time again into acoustic musical events and festival appearances together. Their most recent project, the culmination of a long time passion for Robert Louis Stevenson’s writing, involves them in constructing a show based on his poetry, put to music and arranged by Neil and Judy. Some of the songs have been recorded on Fiddle Club CDs and have seen much live performance, others are new. The new CD features beautifully arranged and recorded settings of these songs. In the show, they are juxtaposed with extracts from RLS’s writing (including letters and diaries) and beautiful contemporary photographs, mostly taken by his family, of the fascinating life of one of Scotland’s greatest writers of the 19th Century. The combination of beautiful music and the obvious genuine affection of this husband and wife team for another makes for a heartwarming, interesting and engaging event. Growing up in a Stevenson obsessed Edinburgh family, this material has always been part of Neil's life, and this project is a natural development of a life long passion. The recordings, most in a 'folk string quartet' style, feature some of Australia's most admired young players. The show is featuring at music and book festivals across Australia.
