Nick Brown was born in the upper peninsula of Michigan, of a mother who loves Motown and a father who loves Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks. For many of the 35 years since, Brown been playing music on an almost daily basis. He’s written hundreds of songs. He’s been in rock bands and country bands (currently playing bass in Madison’s Earl Foss & the Brown Derby). He’s played music at concert halls, tractor shows, dive bars, music clubs, country festivals and everything in between.
Brown’s first full-length solo album, Slow Boat, is a collection of songs that draw from musical influences in the realms of folk, country and sad-bastard Americana (think Greg Brown meets Fred Neil meets Moe Bandy). Recorded in Madison in 2011 with some of Brown’s favorite friends and musicians.
Slow Boat was recorded at Madison Music Foundry in Madison, Wis, and mixed and mastered at Blast House Studios in Madison, Wis.
