ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
If Tom Waits, Feist, and Mazzy Star fertilized an egg, Nikki Kelly would be their reptilian love child.

According to Skope Magazine,

http://skopemag.com/2009/02/04/march-2009-sonicbids-%E2%80%9Cartists-2-watch%E2%80%9D

"Nikki Kelly is a wonderful singer/songwriter from New Mexico. What caught our attention on Nikki was her vocals and her deep lyrics. Nikki put out her first album in April of 2008. One of our favorite tracks is “Franklin.” Nikki is multi talented when it comes to playing instruments as well. On her album she played vocals, guitar, piano, accordion, ukelele, percussion, and more. Another great track is “Do Do Do.” This track has a mellow tempo that Nikki sings over in an ultra sensual manner. Nikki describes herself as a mix of Feist, Mazzy Star, and Tom Waits. We can see that for sure, but we also feel Nikki will find her own niche and create her own lane in the folk genre. You also cannot discount that Nikki’s attractive looks make it easy for her to draw you in on many levels."

Nikki Kelly is a quirky singer songwriter that loves to be silly and strange. From an early age, she was immersed in music as her father played in local blues bands and her mother loved to sing.

Nikki began composing short classical songs on the piano in elementary school and won her first music contest at age eight. She continued to write and play music throughout high school and college.

After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a BA in Media Arts, Nikki moved to the east coast studying film at the New York Film Academy in Manhattan and music at Berklee School of Music in Boston.

In October 2006, Nikki opened for Marcia Ball at the El Rey Theater in Albuquerque with world class guitar player Stephen Bruton and bassist Luis Guerra.

She also opened for singer/songwriter guitar virtuoso, Tony Furtado, in November 2008. And January 2009, Nikki opened for quirky singer/songwriter Steve Poltz.

Currently, she resides in Albuquerque New Mexico writing and performing music and working on films in various capacities. Visit http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2644796 to check out Nikki’s filmography.

Her musical influences include Beck, Tom Waits, Mazzy Star, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, The Pixies, Frank Black, The Beatles, Daniel Johnston, and the Monkees.

Fantastic!!!!
This album is dangerously good! Nikki is overflowing with talent in her musical ability to play multiple instruments, with her fantastic sultry yet amazing voice and with her ability to compose songs from the side streets of American culture. Franklin and Apt. 10 are wonderful examples of her overwhelming talent. Kudos...A true star in the making!! This album should be in every serious music listeners collection. I look forward to hearing more and more from this wonderful young woman!

My Current CDBaby Fave!
Hey, this is Nikki from the CDBaby Customer Service! I checked out Nikki Kelly's album just because she has the same name (lol). However, her album has become my current fave. Gorgeous and unique vocals, quirky lyrics, and great minimilist arrangements... I can't get enough. Thanks Nikki, for being awesome! CDBaby customers... buy it!

Something New
It is truly an album that reaches many audiences. My mother made up background stories for every song and even tried to tell Nikki what her songs were really about.

It reaches past normal boundaries; I myself am not one usually drawn to female singers, but the first time I heard "how do you say" I was hooked.

I recommend this to anyone that just loves music.
