Album Notes
Piano Stories, for piano 4 hands

By Nikolas Sideris

Piano secondo: Myrto akrivou
Piano primo: Nikolas Sideris

The new work for piano 4 hands by Greek composer Nikolas Sideris is comprised of seven movements, each one in a different style, but always approachable by the average listener. Despite the use of dissonance in several places, the harmony and melody remain strong, and the rhythmic drive is always straightforward.

The seven different movements have been composed during a period of over 12 years and follow the styles of various composers that Mr. Sideris admires, such as Prokofiev, Ravel and Messiaen amongst others.

Hailed by 'Duo vivo' as "... a worthy addition to the piano duo repertoire", this collection lasts roughly 15 minutes and both the recording and score are published by the recently launched Editions Musica Ferrum, based in Greece.

The score and CD cover features illustrations by artist Piero Pierini.

A Certain Lightheartedness
There is a certain lightheartedness to this set that I enjoy very much.

Within the context of a modern and often very dissonant harmonic language, Nikolas Sideris is able to create these charming vignettes that beg to be heard again and again. Then he turns around and writes a movement or two is full of lush romanticism and the most pleasing sonorities that anyone could love. A truly talented and skillful composer who is at home writing in a wide range of idioms, Nikolas is not afraid to employ/juxtapose them as he sees fit.

I’m already looking forward to the next release!
