ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
With true Pittsburgh class, Pittsburghers are always willing to help out their fellow natives. What better way to celebrate this character trait of our region than to have the musical blessing bestowed upon up and coming vocalist, Nina Sainato, by the Burg’s beloved Donnie Iris. And just in time to celebrate the holiday season!

Sainato is releasing a new holiday album that features 5 songs with a rock twist, one of which is a duet with Iris, and 5 piano instrumentals. Sainato’s arrangement of her album, appropriately titled Holly & Ivory, reflects her music foundation and background: her training in classical piano married with her knockout vocals stands to create a holiday album that will be able to be appreciated for many years to come.

The New Castle native, Duquesne graduate, and 102.5 WDVE friend and favorite is modest when talking about her natural talent but words are not needed when she performs. First taking the stage at the age of 6, Sainato’s spotlight only seems to grow and great things are anticipated from this closely watched musician from Western Pennsylvania.

The Two Sides of Christmas
This is the best five bucks I ever spent at CD Baby. On the 'Holly' half, Nina Sainato sings five rockin' Christmas carols which are perfect for a dance around the tree, including two of my favourites, 'Rockin' Little Christmas' and 'Run, Run, Ruldolph'. Then, on the 'Ivory' side, she takes to the piano to play five soothing Christmas pieces, including her own composition 'Winter Waltz'. Believe me, it's perfect to get your breath back after your dance, with a cup of hot chocolate or, better still, a glass of champagne. If you only buy one yuletide CD this year, make sure it's "Holly and Ivory". It could be the best five bucks YOU ever spent!

Cool Surprise
This is one of those CDBaby discs we land on with delight and surprise. Christmas is far over as I write but yet enjoy Nina Sainato's mix of energy and quiet between the 5 vocals and 5 instrumentals. Actually, the shift in mood between the two makes for a great background while mixing the eggnog. I have to say I was tempted to knock my rating down a peg because, frankly, the selection of the same old Christmas songs. That's me, OK? In the end I like them all, especially the beautiful WInter Waltz. The Carol of the Bells opens up to cosmic glory. I hope Sainato cuts another record and tours to my neighborhood in New York. Meantime, a fine half-hour both in-season and off.
