ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The debut self titled CD, NINTH CIRCLE, known as “the record that started it all” in NINTH CIRCLE fandom, was released worldwide in the winter of 2000. Taking the metal world by storm, the CD went on to reach #2 on MP3.com’s Metal charts where it stayed on the top 10 list for several months.

Recorded during a time when Melodic Metal was underground, Ninth Circle’s debut captured what the band had been doing since their inception. “We were young, but we had been around the block long enough to know our way around a studio, write good songs and deliver them live and on record”, recalls Frank. “This style of music was not popular in the U.S. during this time” states Dennis, “however the gigs were always a validation that people liked our songs, as simple as that.” Dennis goes on to say, “Although we were listening to a good amount of progressive Metal at the time, our goal was to record songs that were catchy and to the point. We saved the extended solos and instrumental breaks for our live performances.”

Seven songs originally made the first pressing of NINTH CIRCLE. Thundering songs like “Revolution”, “Hesitate”, and “Ninth Circle” carved a musical path that came to define NINTH CIRCLE; heavy and melodic. The songs “If I Failed You”, “Searcher” and “Long Way to the Ground” provided fans with another perspective of the band’s songwriting skills. Two songs, “Mistreatment” and “Move” did not originally make the CD due to time and budget restraints but have now been resurrected to their full glory on this CD.

Frank explains, “We wanted to do something special with the re-release of NINTH CIRCLE, so we decided to go back into the studio with Billy [Krodel] and revive two great songs that didn’t make the CD. And yes, “Frontman” was originally on this CD, but we re-recorded it for "The Power Of One", thinking that it would never see the light of day. On this pressing, we left it off and replaced it with two songs you have never heard before, either on record or live.” Dennis continues, "It was nice to bring the tapes back to Billy for this. We worked on this project during February and March of 2008 and Billy passed away in September. In a way, this is our tribute to him and a celebration of that chapter in our career."

With the worldwide success of NINTH CIRCLE, the original pressings have been out of print for nearly a decade. The reissue gives fans new and old, a chance to peer into the world of NINTH CIRCLE from a different angle. The album has been completely digitally re-mastered and re-mixed to give you the full dynamic range of a young and hungry band in the studio before the “Pro-Tools” generation existed. Dennis continues, “Although the CD is re-mastered, the raw energy is still there. We were reminded that there is something to be said about recording a CD practically “live” on actual tape. Of course there are overdubs and second and third takes, but all in all, we hammered out the basic tracks in no time. It kind of lets me envision how the first Van Halen, Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin records were recorded”

NINTH CIRCLE is guaranteed to deliver today as it did when the recording entered the new millennium. Take a journey back with Ninth Circle and experience the energy, power and melodies of their signature debut.

Great Metal!
Having seen these guys live numerous times they never fail to impress and this CD, along with THE POWER OF ONE, will impress you too! This CD really brings out the raw power of a metal band thrashing out hit after hit like "Revolution", "If I Failed You" and "Searcher".

All I can say is go out and get both CD's and catch this band live!
