ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The term "OAK" can be used as part of a common name formed from members of the Tight Bros From Way Back When, Spermatozoa, and Flocking Eduardo. This genus is native to the northern hemisphere, and includes species extending from the cold latitudes of Olympia, WA and Long Island, NY.

Our new 6 song CD is called "bravo!" and was recorded by legendary rocker Toshi Kasai. Toshi has recorded all of the Melvins albums since 2002 and plays guitar for Big Business. He did a fantastic job of course, so we named the album accordingly.

Marc (Bass/Vox)
Gerard (Guitars)
Justin (Drums)

Review From: San Diego CityBeat Magazine

OAKS bravo!

San Diego, meet your new metal kings. In the tradition of sludge-slingers Karp and Big Business, OAKS have come to provide the soundtrack to your next bongload. And if you don’t smoke, this trio will still drink your ass under the table, draw a dick on your face with permanent marker and proceed to have sex with your girlfriend on the kitchen table while blasting Ace of Spades. With bludgeoning riffage, airtight drum fills and a shit-kicking backwoods vibe, OAKS are what would happen if The Melvins made an album of Lynyrd Skynyrd covers. Two words: totally awesome. Mike McGuirk – Independent Professional Writer for stuff like RHAPSODY, interesting BLOGS, and many other special things:

"Ham-fisted San Diego trio OAKS uphold a long tradition of heavy rock music that is not necessarily metal, not so much punk and not attached to any type of ironic classic hits jackassery, thank God. They don’t even sound like MC5.

Instead OAKS are next in a line of bands that extends back to old school smart asses Killdozer, the hick noise metal of Mule, Pac Rim big shots Mudhoney and the terrifyingly awesome Karp. Misfit rock music that is loud as all hell, features yelled, unfriendly vocals and offers zero timeline as far as what the band is up to goes.

Not intended to be groundbreaking, not for hipsters and not old fart rock either. Just rock music made by dudes who would prefer to clear the party rather than get one started.

Marc Baylis (bass and vocals), Sean McKee (guitar) and drummer Justin (formerly of middle heavyweight Kill Rock Stars concern Tight Bros From Way Back When) formed OAKS around San Diego in September 2006. McKee left in spring of 2007 and was replaced by one Gerard Lawther. This line up has toured the SoCal area and self released an EP, Bravo!, in 2008 featuring 6 songs of high test desert metal riffology recorded by Big Business guitarist Toshi Kasai who also produced the Melvins 2006 album A Senile Animal.

Bravo! has moments of the Melvins Houdini and Kyuss Blues For the Red Sun in it (check Deerhead) but this is not slow moving stoner metal by any stretch, or even psychedelic, Bravo! rages past like a thunderstorm.

Currently OAKS is running around playing shows in California in support of the Bravo! EP/CD available now on their MySpace site, on cdbaby.com, and WantageUSA.com."
