BIO

Four Miamians, at one point or another, move to Chicago. They decide it would be a good idea to work with each other because they like saying "bro," calling everyone comepingas, and finding good South American restaurants up north. What they don't realize, however, is that they have no idea how it's all gonna work, cuz the "musician" guys don't know jack about Ableton Live, and the "laptop" guys stare blankly at the mention of verse/choruses. And to steer clear of the whole "just make a few beats and we'll throw riffs over 'em" indielectronica thing, they decide to reverse everything and let the electronics be the main melodic instruments while the organic stuff become the rhythmic foundation. Three years of very, VERY leisurely paced get-togethers full of learning-the-hard-way later, and they had five songs. Enter one Wisconsin transplant who injects some much needed bad ass drumming, and the EP is finally done. Having ACTUAL band rehearsals and shows, however, is another thing altogether.

Conceptually, aside from the gentlemen already involved in this self-inflicted (yet delightful) headache, Ohvaur would also be open to all of their friends / colleagues / kindred spirits. In other words, you can call it a collective: where anyone in the circle can come and go as they please, helping to make each song (and in the future, performance) the best it can be. No one has assigned roles... except maybe Dan as the calm in the middle of the storm. But that, as they say, is getting ahead of one's self. For now, all parties involved are just glad that the first EP is finished.

YOU MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT CARE THAT…

Tim (Chicago via Boston, Miami, Quito, and Taipei) has scored Sundance / Edinburgh / bunch of other festival entry short films and is currently working on music for a UK sitcom. He also released two records with Kimone (Silverthree Sound Recordings), who toured the country multiple times with the likes of Spoon, Cursive, Ours, The Album Leaf, and more.

Dan (Chicago via Miami and Asunción) has been a recording engineer for 15 years, working on everything from metal (Torche), hardcore (Paint It Black), Latin electropop (Minimal), to jazz big bands. He currently runs Soundjitsu Music Recording.

Joel (Miami via Chicago and Ancona) and Christian (Miami via Chicago and Bogotá) make up the electronic duo Model.Fragment, who have done sound design for several independent films and television spots. They are currently producing albums/tracks for artists on Project Mooncircle (Germany) and Alpha Pup Records (USA), as well as playing bimonthly electro-acoustic sets in Miami's art districts. They’ve also been commissioned to do sound/music for animation segments within a sketch comedy show on Mega TV.

Mike (Chicago via Milwaukee) has lent his drumming services to records, tours, and performances by Jay Bennett (ex-Wilco), The Bomb (Naked Raygun), Signified Sound System, The Safes, and more. He continues to do session and commercial work in the Chicago area.
