Sweetbreads

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Wild, willful, and wanton abandon. The thing about a thrill is that it's so much better when it erupts from some structure, some calm. A shock titillates that much more when it springs from behind a closet door, a wall of darkness, or glassy water. That's what we want to share, that thrill the four of us get when we play together. Adventure is right around the corner . It's the feeling you got when you waited for everyone to go to sleep and the house to get so settled in; right before you shimmied out your window, hit the ground and took off into a world that was open ended and dangerous.
We just experienced our first lineup change in 8 years, a quasi-retirement from the stage for drummer Kelly Bower. There were a grip of things we had been working on that we thought needed to be turned loose. We had some live tracks recorded at the Stone Church that were pretty smokin', and some studio selections that felt cool and were doing some different things for us. It's all material that was to be the backbone of a new release. When Kelly stepped aside and we sat down to re-chart a course with our new drummer John Santarelli, we looked at what we had and thought it was a fitting capstone for the lineup that had been swinging the axe for almost a decade. Sweetbreads presents different facets of the band in different settings, we felt the tunes and performances we had collected represented a complete thought, even though it's just five selections. Sometimes you don't need the full pancake, scramble, bacon, & homefries; sometimes you just need to have the steak and eggs and get on the road.
