ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
One-Eyed Jack is "Organic, Bohemian-Style, Guitar Gumbo" fueled by rich vocal harmonies, duel guitar leads, and driving rhythms.

The band hosts great live performances with jam styles reminiscent of the Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead and Black Crowes.

On their new CD, "Before Alone", One-Eyed Jack has jelled into its current and most powerful incarnation. Combining groovin' trippy tunes like "Before Alone" and hard driving, gritty rockers like "Year of the Locust" with introspective rock ballads like "This, Too, Shall Pass", the band has created a sound that lures music lovers from a wide range of generational and musical tastes.

The strength of One-Eyed Jack's live performances has enabled them to play on the same bill with such legends as Hot Tuna, Clarence Clemons, the Band, and the New Riders of the Purple Sage.

Vibrant!
This jam band brilliantly blends southern fried rock with a dash of The Dead and Allman accents to create a flavorful collection. One-Eyed Jack worked with Ron Schreier to produce this flawless CD. Two dominating lead guitars, powerful percussion, rich expressive vocals and beat laden jams effuse their originals. In addition to first class musicianship they write poetic visual lyrics. Being a Deadhead it is hard not to love the music of One-Eyed Jack. They incorporate complex bridge and chord changes with passionate playing. 'Year of the Locust' is infested with mighty guitar leads, funky whah whah chords, omnipotent percussion, swarming eerie keys and dangerous sexy lyrics climaxing in a hard driving jam. 'The Waltz' is a song of searching dancing on smooth slow instrumentation and sweet reflective lyrics. It is followed by 'Cilantro' a Latin flavored track filled with spicy jams, dramatic pauses, zest and plenty of zeal. The CD closes with the philosophical 'This, Too Shall Pass' with lots of faint sound effects including waves crashing on the beach. Depth, drama and passion close the set. Before Alone is vibrant

Relix Magazine Vol 26 No 1- One-Eyed Jack is a New Jersey-based five-piece that has a lot going for it. Even the sleeve for its second album, Before Alone (with skel-etons dancing across the water), is top quality. Things get even better after you slip the disc into your player. The band has a hard-driving sound with roots in classic and Southern rock and more than a smattering of Grateful Dead influences. The opening cut and title song recalls Wide-spread Panic at it’s best. The following cut, "Brother Tom," is altogether different with its eerie melody and slightly psychedelic-tinged guitar leads. This tune has an air of early Grate-Dead a la "China Cat Sunflower." The band equally comfortable with rhythmic rockers such as "Year Of The Locust" and more delicate rock ballads such as "The Waltz" and "This, Too, Shall, Pass." Also of note is the sophisticated, Allmanesque "Move On," which highlights the band’s vocal and lyrical talents. The band’s hotline is 973-614-8453 (7#), and its Website is http://www.one-eyed-jack.com.

One-Eyed Jack: Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Santana, Phish, CSN&Y and Black Crowes, blend until smooth, add a touch of Black Sabbath and Tom Waites. Shake, pour and let settle 5 years. There you have it One-Eyed Jack. One-Eyed Jack is one hell of a jam band! These 5 musicians will drag you into the wee hours of the morning twisting and turning you to groove in musical directions you wont forget.

Improvijazation Issue #36 Rotcod Zzaj : One Eyed Jack: BEFORE ALONE - This is a SCORCHER! Good ole’ down home RAWK-IN takes ME back a coupla’ decades but still sounds FRESH! Distinct shades of early Allman brothers stuff (particularly Gregg Allman). I really THOUGHT we’d reviewed something by this group in the last coupla’ years, but I couldn’t find ‘em in our archives reason that was important to me is I didn’t remember ‘em bein’ quite so vibrant! This is some REALLY great rawk-&-roll! "Year of the Locust" is a standout, high-energy piece that I especially liked "Draw The Line" is another KICKER! If you like to ROCK - GET this! Comes MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by this reviewer. In fact, it gets the PICK of 1999’s first issue as "best rock music"! If you like unique style & music with energy that will NOT quit

Music Head Magazine by David Strange: Dueling guitars, a tight rhythm section, catchy harmonies, and clever lyrics displays a musical maturity and willingness to ride the original music frontier. "It’s a high energy sound with an "old soul" feel to it, one that inspires confidence and hope and says hey it’s OK to get a groove on, it’s OK to shake ‘dem bones"
