Ookla the Mok is Back! A Geek-Rock Necessity.
I was so excited to hear that Ookla had a new project out, and picked it up as soon as it came out. I must have listened to it a hundred times already! There are only five songs, but they're all amazing. Welcome to the con is a nerd anthem that strikes unnervingly close to home. Medieval Evil Knievel is a new recording of what has got to be one of Ookla's oldest songs-- I saw them perform that with an actor dressed as the main character at least ten years ago. Math is also a perennial fav, and a recording of Go To Bed has been eagerly awaited by many. But my all-time favorite has to be Tantric Yoda, a rap/hip-hop number about Yoda's love life. I don't know who they got to do Yoda's voice but this might be my favorite Ookla tune ever. Nerdvana is a ton of geeky fun and if you're a big, fat nerd like me it's an incredible bargain at 5 bucks!
