ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The toe tappin’ tastiness and scrumptious singing served up in Orange Sherbet’s Delicious will have kids dancing at the farmers’ market through all four seasons--clamoring for the taste of parsnips, persimmons, purple kale, and tomatillos! -Vanessa Barrington ~ Author/Writer/Blogger

Recalls Jill Pierce, "We fell in love with every food we wrote songs about. What started as an inspiration to create a celebration of foods in season became a meditation on every bite." Tamsen Fynn adds, “Everyone who worked on the CD needed regular lunch breaks, because we all got so hungry listening to the tempting descriptions of rice & beans, sautéed vegetables, or al dente pasta. This might be the first time a child who hears our music wants to taste bok choy, rutabaga, and mustard greens!" Steve Pierce chimes in, “And who can resist waffles? They are a staple!”

Tamsen and her husband, professional bread baker Eduardo Morell, participated in the Eat Local Challenge in 2007, and this was when the idea for the cd Delicious was born! For the month of August Tamsen & Eduardo purchased 80% of their foods from local sources, grown or produced within 100 miles. Tamsen was so inspired by the Eat Local Challenge that she started thinking about ways to translate her new relationship with food into music. She had been thinking about creating a cd that took the listener through the seasons, and was also inspired by the Edible Schoolyard, an amazing gardening & cooking project in the Berkeley public schools founded by Alice Waters. Finally, she was handed a Local Foods Wheel, and the whole picture came into focus. The cd could be shaped around The Local Foods Wheel, using every morsel from each season. Tamsen’s friends Sarah Klein and Jessica Prentice created The Local Foods Wheel with their friend, graphic designer Maggie Gosselin. It is a wonderful tool for discovering local, seasonal food in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Upper Midwest, New York, and soon, Southern California. Tamsen’s creative energy went into high gear when she got a Foods Wheel, and she soon found herself spending hours at the kitchen table with a pile of cookbooks and a long list of foods, on a quest for dishes that were mouthwatering and would lend themselves to musical treatment. The cd became a five-year project, starting as a seed and growing into a full-length album with songs by Tamsen Fynn, Jill Pierce, Steve Pierce, and Stella Pierce.
