Orb Mellon is the alter ego and roots music moniker of Mike Malone, founder and guitarist of the seminal 90s indie band and Sony/Epic recording artists Dirt Merchants.
With his 2007 debut "Love Above," Orb Mellon entered the Blues world with a raw, diverse, and exciting collection of original country blues that went on to receive rave reviews in regional, national and international press and was recognized by Real Blues Magazine as one of the Top 100 releases of the year.
With “Moan,” Orb Mellon marks a compelling sonic departure from the spare simplicity of "Love Above." The songs in this more plugged in and fully orchestrated concept album were all specifically written and produced to go together as a whole and explore the darker side of lust, love, loss and revenge.
Since its release in early 2009, the disc, equal parts swamp rocker, soul ballad and Delta drone has gone on to receive high critical praise in national and international press and has established Orb Mellon as a powerful and notable contemporary Blues innovator.
"If Orb Mellon’s Blues is a vision of how the Blues will continue to thrive then I can give nothing but praise."
"A great record."

"As gritty as it is good, Moan is a fine piece of post-modern blues."
