HEY MARILYN is a Musical Biography of Marilyn Monroe. Originally produced and broadcast by the national CBC Radio network, this award-winning musical stars Beverly D'Angelo as Marilyn. HEY MARILYN has been produced on stage twice, once at Edmonton's Citadel Theatre and, more recently, in Toronto at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts. Both were sell-out, limited runs.
The late "rat pack" member, Peter Lawford (the last person to speak with Marilyn the night she died) and Cliff became good friends, especially after Cliff, at Peter's home, played him the HEY MARILYN tapes. "I cannot believe," Lawford said, "that someone who never met her (Jones), could have such incredible insight into who she really was! Cliff, your musical is a masterpiece." The book (script), lyrics and music for HEY MARILYN were all written by Cliff Jones. Cliff's first musical "Kronborg: 1582" was a rock opera based on "Hamlet". Like HEY MARILYN, it began as a CBC Radio Network production. On Broadway it was re-titled "Rockabye Hamlet" and ran for six weeks, including previews. In Los Angeles as "Something's Rockin' In Denmark", its scheduled two-month run turned into 14 months and it won seven Dramalogue awards. Among Cliff's five other musicals (all produced either on Radio or on stage) is BABIES, a sweetheart of a family show featuring babies in a hospital nursery before they all go home. They talk, sing and dance about their moms, dads, prenatal experiences, and just about anything else that pops into their little heads. BABIES has enjoyed about two dozen separate productions in North America plus one in Sydney, Australia. Find out more about BABIES at babiesthemusical.com.
We hope you enjoy HEY MARILYN.
