Otley Brass Band may not be one of the oldest Yorkshire Brass Bans, but it is certainly one of the proudest. It is based in the Wharfedale market town of Otley, nestling under the Chevin and cklose to the famous Ilkley moor. The band has nearly forty playing members of all ages and performs regularly in concerts and competitions across Yorkshire.
The band has become well known for its entertaining concert programmes and and has a strong local following, providing a varied musical backdrop to the many events held in its home town. Otley Band are very proud to help drive new developments in music and this CD features its second original musical commission, a setting of the Yorkshire Anthem 'On Ilkley Moor', arranged for the band by David Lancaster.
Otley Band has set itself a target to create a new tradition of brass playing locally to develop and protect the wonderful sound of the brass band, and the biggest part of this has been the formation of Wharfe Brass, a group for developing instrumentalists to experience being in a full band. Wharfe Brass play on tracks 7,8 and 9 on this cd.
The final track on this cd sees Otley band joined by local choir Sally's Army to give a spirited vocal renditionof the title track.
